5.0 out of 5 stars Best for supervised whacking
Boomwhackers are a great product enjoyed by music teachers and their students. They work best under supervised use by a music teacher rather than just giving them to two- and three-year-olds to be randomly whacking away. Also, though they're pretty durable, they are not meant to be in a contest to see who can whack them the hardest. As they get a bit flattened with...

As they get a bit flattened with use, they will work better if you round them out again.

In a music class of grade school children, simple melodies can be taught, but an easier use, and best for young children, is to have a group whack out simple chords while everyone sings a simple song. Can be used with simple I, IV, and V chords. They become even more useful if you purchase the set of chromatic notes, so you can do some tunes in other keys or that require a different part of the scale for the melody. Add a second set, buy and insert the "octavators" (small inserts in one end), and they'll sound one octave lower. This gives you a second octave with which to work.

5.0 out of 5 stars These are SO much fun!, October 23, 2006

How often do you get to play a song by whacking sticks? The music teachers in the middle school I worked in use these a lot, and I am buying a set for my 2 year old for Christmas. They are perfectly tuned, and are great both for musical education and creative play.

5.0 out of 5 stars Boomwhackers - A whole new idea in percussive fun!, September 6, 2010

Okay, first of all, I have to qualify my 5 star review. I gave Boomwhackers 5 stars for the idea, the concept of them, the awesome creativity behind these amazing things. On the other hand, if I were to rate the actual PRODUCT, Boomwhackers, I would give them a three because I feel they are far too expensive. PULLLLEEEAAASE, like another reviewer said, MAKE YOUR OWN. You can do a Google search and find many formulas for making them easily and for much less $$$$.

The meat and potatoes: These are some of the coolest rhythmic inventions I have ever seen. We had someone bring a set of the store bought ones to our drum circle a while back - AND BOY DID WE HAVE FUN!!!!

Ever since that day, in the back of my mind I have been wanting to get some, but they are just so expensive!!!!
Well, I finally found out how to make them with the protective tubes/sleeves that go over florescent lights.
In fact I made a double set of 16 of them for $12! How 'bout that???

I have been bringing them to the drum circle and we LOVE going nuts with these crazy things.

They are NOT only for kids.
Us adults have a blast with them too.

I am going to a Labor Day party today and am gonna bring them with me.
I can't wait.
Everyone loves these things!!!

I will easily be the hit of the party by bringing them!
Peace,
Mick

I'm not sure that our two girls have captured the concept of these yet, but they do enjoy making noise with them! I noticed that the high C is a bit flat, but that doesn't seem to bother anyone but me. They're still a bunch of fun for everyone!

Love the boomwhackers! My students do as well, and they are a fun, easy way to teach solfege and intervals to kids who have a hard time focusing!

My kids, ages 4 and under, love playing with these. We don't make a lot of pretty music, but they are learning. We use them to talk about sounds and how different lengths sound. I love that they are so durable, they get pretty abused by them and hold up well.

It's so cool to see my kids playing with the same toy/concept at the same time. No one is fighting. they are actually working together to create music! They copy each other's rythms and work out strategies for making the melody. It's really the simplest toy, but is so far above the quality of those new, fancy toys out there. Get this and you'll see.
