A must for table saws,
By
This review is from: BOSCH TS1010 Table Saw Pusher/Scale For 4000 Table Saws (Tools & Home Improvement)
I don't own this particular model, but a similar model. I ran across the poor rating on this and then learned that it was rated low because someone couldn't understand something as simple as a push stick..Anyway, a push stick is a must for table saw safety. This style is the best available. There are various angles built into it for quickly setting the blade's tilt. It also has a built in center finder for round stock. Simply place it over the end of the stock, draw a line, rotate the stock 90 degrees or so (it doesn't have to be exact) and draw another line. The intersection of the two is the exact center of the stock. The red rubber pad at the front of the pusher is only used so that you apply a slight twist towards the fence to keep the stock flush with the fence when pushing past the blade. The small lip an inch or so from the back is what is used to actually push the stock. You only use a pusher like this when cutting the last foot or so of wood because you need the lip over the rear of the wood. If this doesn't make sense, take a course in table saws. If you find this hard to use, you are doing something wrong..stop take lessons before hurting yourself. A table saw can kill you, so if you don't know what you are doing..STOP.

Not having one is like seeing how close you can get your fingers to the grill of a hot oven without touching it. If you have a table saw, a pusher it an absolute must in many common situations. I like this model better than the long skinny types because this controls the piece with more stability. Better stability = safer. I particularly like this model because that little rubber tab keeps the pusher from sliding around (I did have one incident where an old pusher accidentally slid sideways into the rotating blade; I admit it was mostly my fault and could have been avoided. All that written junk on the side is just that, junk. Bosch make top quality tools but has a habit of adding more than you really need or want to them. If you need to find an angle or length, do it right and use the right tool. I haven't even bothered to check if all those angles were meant to be accurate with or without considering the bump on the bottom, I'm guessing without but the package doesn't tell you and I won't waste my time trying to figure it out.

Like others have mentioned, there are a few design flaws - some increadibly dangerous ones as well!1. Heel too shallow for safe operation with high chance of slippage resulting in kickback 2. They've made a simple push block too many gadgets - a safety device such as a push block should be JUST a push block. 3. CLOSED HANDLE!!!! Push blocks with closed handles should be banned in my opinion. If for some reason, the pushblock comes into contact with the blade, your hand is forced to follow. Without a closed handle, you are able to easily release the tool from your hand and stay out of harms way. The ideas are all there, but in my opinion, you should definitely pass on this one and either make your own (which is very very very simple to do), or find one to buy, that does not have a closed handle. I would have given it 4 stars for having just the shallow heel and an open handle, but the closed handle is what really kills this item. A good example of a safety item making operation more dangerous in some aspects.

A little pricey but the item works well as a pusher to keep your hands free of the blade. Not award, easy to use. Several other neat guages built into it as well, some I am still trying to figure out.

For thirty years I have made my own pushers just like this one except mine were made from 1/4" plywood and 1/2" plywood. Mine were made just like my father made his from the time I was a teenager. This one is almost exactly the same shape and purpose, except it also has some frequently needed length and angle functions. I never thought I would be saying this, but it is better than my own. If you don't understand how to use it, take a look in old woodworking books and magazines. Or take a search online for "push stick pattern." This is a very useful tool and I recommend it.

I should have read the reviews before buying. Like others have said the heel/nub that catches the wood and does the real pushing is too shallow and I find it slipping on the wood more often than I like.I also didn't think about the closed handle thing that another reviewer mentioned but from a safety perspective it seems dead on. I could easily see this sucker getting trapped between spinning blade and fence and my hand now wrapped around the grip unable able to free itself. I plan to make my own now. [...]

This same thing is sold under other brand names - bottom line, the design is flawed. The push angle and down-pressure is a great idea, but unfortunately the notch is a little too shallow, allowing the 'heel' to slip off the work as you push forward, making it more dangerous than no push stick at all! Mine went in the trash after the first cut almost put me into the blade. You don't need this - cut a good 'down-pressure' push stick out of scrap plywood or MDF. There are tons of patterns online.

OK but mysterious functions,
By Another point (from one who learned recently): Remember, always push the material BETWEEN the BLADE and the FENCE, and push it CLEAR PAST the blade. Many beginners push the material on the OUTSIDE of the fence, but this can cause binding!

I have the Bosch table - very nice. But I find little use for this pusher handle. I usually need to use other stick type shapes to push through. Most saw tasks that could use this pusher would be large enough to safely use your hands. I didn't need to buy it.
