It pretty much is customizable to whatever you would want out of a phaser pedal.

So I use the Phase 90 as my main phaser because of its great sound and the Boss PH-3 to add versatility by increasing the size of my sound palette.

Makes some nice swirly chorus sounds and of course some beautiful complex phaser sounds.

Phase shifter kicked a chorus and flanger from my pedal board. The pedal is capabable of producing some very vowel like sounds; almost like an auto wah. Makes some nice swirly chorus sounds and of course some beautiful complex phaser sounds. I can get some Rolling Stones phaser sounds, some vibey Pink Floyd sounds, some chorus like sounds for Police stuff with this phaser. A very musical pedal. Step phaser settings are odd but unique. I like this one and think it's worth a try.

As with all Boss pedals, this is a good, solid, reliable effect pedal. My main use for this is to simulate a classic 70s Mutron Phasor, which it does really well on the "10 stage" setting with the Resonance turned up. Great for copping that classic "Produced by Lee 'Scratch' Perry" sound. Also great with a distortion pedal for David Gilmour-esque solos.

The pedal can also get a passable Univibe sound on the 4-stage setting, although it does color your sound somewhat and is not what I would call "transparent".

Not the most popular phase pedal among the cognoscenti, but as reliable performer nonetheless.

I'm a big fan of phase shifters and uni-vibes, which are essentially 4-stage phasers. I used to think that analog was the only way to go when it came to phasers. The Boss PH-3 changed my mind about that. Many describe this pedal as "digital" sounding. If, by "digital", you mean "fake", "sterile" or "flat" sounding, I would disagree. If you are referring to low noise, good headroom and a "cleaner" overall tone, then, yes, it is digital sounding.

As other people have mentioned, there is somewhat of a volume drop in 4-stage mode. I believe it is actually a PERCEIVED volume drop since that mode has a darker tonal character than the others. I've found that turning up the depth and resonance (feedback) knobs help to remedy the volume dip. The 4-stage mode doesn't equal the tone of my Small Stone or Phase 90. On the other hand, it isn't embarrassed by the sound of those two pedals, either. I don't hear any volume drop with any of the other modes.

My favorite modes are 10-stage, 12-stage, Fall, Rise and Step. They are worth the cost of the pedal alone, IMO. There are a wealth of swirling, hypnotic synth-like tones within those settings (especially the last 3) that you will never get out of any other phase shifter that I know of. We aren't talking about gimmicky, cool-for-a-minute sounds, either.

So, if you want a straight ahead vintage sounding phaser and don't need or want a lot of features, you're better off with a Small Stone or Phase 90 (Script Logo). If you are in the market for a much more versatile and adventurous-sounding phase shifter, then test drive "The Green Machine". More like 4.5 stars.

5 stars this product is incredible, there are so many available sounds from this and they are high quality. Many tonal options. This pedal is built like a tank. I highly suggest it

I'll keep the review short and sweet: if you're into writing/playing experimental prog, or just need a nice multipurpose phaser pedal this is the one for you. A few tweaks here and it sounds like you're playing in a fish bowl, a few tweaks there and it sounds like you're playing chiptune music through your guitar; it's pretty awesome. I've had a lot of fun as well as practical usage for the ph3 since i've purchased it. Also a recommended purchase with is the harmonist pedal.

I received the best service and price possible. As for the pedal itself, what do you expect? Its made by Boss. 7 out of 9 of the pedals i use exclusively are Boss pedals. Never had a problem and they always sound great.
The phaser in particular has an incredible sweep of sounds to work with. A must have for experimental music or just to add some texture to your tunes.

This is a great pedal! It pretty much is customizable to whatever you would want out of a phaser pedal. It doesn't sound cheap, which was what I was afraid of. If you are looking for a phaser pedal, I wouldn't look anywhere else and purchase this one. You won't be disappointed!
