I've been playing in a worship band for a church for nearly 3 years.
I've been leading said worship band for about a year now.
With worship music you don't want anything heavy (especially on Sunday morning with elderly people who question contemporary Christian music), you want a slight over drive. (especially if you're the only guitarist playing or there is only one other guitarist)
The range of sounds this produces is amazing. I could get a simple slight overdrive that is perfect for Sunday mornings.
Or take it all the way to really rock out for a youth event.
Boss pedals are the real deal. period.
It looks very simple with only three knobs, but you can get some good sounds out of this simple-looking box.
Very good construction and great sound.
I use the Amps distortion and use this pedal as a Booster (low drive value, higher level value). It essentially turns my 3 chennal amp in to a 6 channel amp; When I activate it on my clean tone, it gives me just a little bit of break-up, it gives a boost to my light distortion and heavy distortion channels when I activate it as well. So I use it when I want an "in-between" my light and heavy setting, or a little more out of my heavy setting, all without throwing the original tone out of whack thanks to the tone adjustment nob which I set to match my amps natural tone.
This adds a lot of versatility to my setup, and I am very happy with it.
I have also played around with using it like a distortion pedal just to see what it was like, and it was satisfactory.
While I have several overdrive pedals, this one is good at giving some basic overdrive tones while keeping the amps low end. I can get decent tones from a Telecaster and Les Psul by keeping the level and tone knobs below 12 o'clock and adjusting the drive to taste.
The OD sounds great through Fender clean tubes and I also tried it with a bass guitar. With some adjustment of the tone and drive knob, the bass has an overdriven tone with a good drive.
The other reviews here prove this pedal is typical and iconic Boss in build quality. I find the Boss pedals good for their purpose and have mostly modded the ones I've owned after some time, but I may keep this one as is and use it as a boost. These pedals last forever and I only paid $20 for mine.
I play it with a Line 6 amp and I dont have any complain about it, its good for a distortion booster more than the overdrive itself but still it can give you a warm sound in the overdrive or a harsh crispy sound just by turning the knobs in different ways.... It can give you a great sustain and pinchy echoes at the end of long notes like used in Estranged from Guns N' Roses.
In general, great price for this pedal, Im sure there are a lot better overdrive pedals, but this is a great one for the price
Totally recommended! :)
