Line Level And Speaker Level Inputs

(Low and High Level Inputs)

The R1004 has two different ways that you can get a signal into it.

One is called Low level input and the other is called High level input.

A low level input is measured in voltages. It comes in the form of RCA outputs from the back of your receiver and goes to the RCA inputs on your amplifier.

A high level input is measure in wattages. It comes in the form one positive and one negative wire from the back of your receiver to and goes to the input terminal of your amplifier in the same wire form.

Low-level (RCA) input wiring is preferred for best audio performance. Always use a high-quality RCA cable for best audio performance.

NOTE: Do not connect BOTH the high level and low level inputs from your receiver to your amplifier a

GENERAL FEATURES

Variable Gain Control

Properly setting the gain on your amplifier is key to getting great sound in your car.

The gain control is not for adjusting volume. It simply adjusts the amount of signal that is coming from your receiver and going to your amplifier.

If you set it too high, you are introducing distortion into the sound. But if you set it too low, then you are choking back on what the amplifier is there to do in the first place.

Here is a technique that works on most amplifiers.

First, turn the amplifier’s gain all the way down. Then go up front and put on some music. Now crank the stereos volume until you hear distortion. Then back it off until the distortion goes away.

Go to your amplifier and turn the gain up until the distortion comes back. Then once again, back off until the distortion goes way.

And you are done!

Once you start your car it makes so much engine/alternator whine you can't hear anything but.

Exactly what it says. You get what you pay for. I knew I was buying a cheap amp when I bought it. Don't go into it expecting $500 sound. It puts out it's rated power...sort of.

They DO tell you the true RMS @ _ Ohm ratings of it in the manual and fine print but the packaging and box does the usual flea market audio trick...you know, the whole overrating the power output. Throwing 15000 Watts at you for $30...Yeah, that thing.

I would NEVER use this with a woofer of any kind. It does a noticeably better job than my Alpine headunit for powering the front and rear speakers but that's about all I would recommend doing with it. The amp performs well under a seat and I haven't noticed it getting unusually hot or any cut outs. It's quite small which is nice for tight fits. It's comparable in size to a typical factory amp.

I did notice that Amazon claims it has a remote subwoofer level control... Well, I didn't notice anything like that in the box. Not a big loss.

At the end of the day, it's a $30 amp. It'll do a better job powering your mids than your headunit or factory amp but that's all it's good for. Good little amp for the money. Nothing more. Nothing less.

I bought this little amp that could on an impulse due primarily to the low, low price of $40.00! I should have trusted my first instinct that no amp is ever sold for 40.00 bucks, what you get is a nicely marketed, fairly good looking paper-weight. This amp has one good review, maybe I was unlucky and received an amp that was defective but that's not likely. What I received was an amp that once installed, sounded WORSE than the cheap Pioneer head unit I am running in my truck. I tried everything, switching speaker wires, triple-checked all my connections and so forth. I plugged the same speakers into my 600W Sony Explode Amp and they sound fine, switch the speakers back to this BOSS amp and what I hear is a horribly under-powered, muffled tone. Thank goodness Amazon has a nice return policy and I quickly requested full refund.

I USE THIS AMP TO DRIVE 8 SPEAKERS, 2 6X9 AND 6 6.5 ROUND. EACH SPEAKER IS RATED AT 50 - 80 WATTS RMS. ITS USED AS MY VOCALS AND TYMPANI DRIVER. FOR THIS WHEN COMBINED WITH 1X8" AND 2X12" AT 1000 WATTS FROM SUB AMP. I HAVE RUMBLE BUMP THUMP AND I CAN STILL CLEARLY UNDERSTAND THE LYRICS. THE DECIBLE RANGE MAKES IT A PERFECT MATCH FOR MY SUBS.

EDIT 1: Only three days after installing, the unit is stuck in protection mode. Good Connections, no fuses blown, it's not the speakers and my other boss amp for the sub works fine. waiting the return and get another. If it works I will change my review back to a positive one, If it's defective too then goodbye Boss!

EDIT 2: Returned the amp, got the replacement, sounds great.

The rest of the story: I got my second amp which worked for about a week and fried itself along with blowing 2 of my speakers. OK, so I tried upgrading to the 1200 Watt version and it did the same thing. Got my connections checked by a professional and the amp is just plain cooking. Maybe it just gets too hot in my trunk, but thats no excuse and I have a mono block right next to it that operates just fine. Getting really tired of returning and installing amps, do yourself a favor and STAY AWAY FROM BOSS

It shows a manufacturer's faith in their products when they won't let you return it. The marketing for this amp is extremely misleading and this amp isn't going to do the job that I needed it to. From the sounds of it, this amp is more suitable as an expensive gun range target than for what its intended purpose is. When I found that out, I tried to cancel the order but it got shipped out anyways (after sitting in a warehouse for days) and when I tried to return it, they wouldn't let me. I noticed the listed specs also changed since when I originally placed my order. Dishonest business practices will not be rewarded and will eventually sound the death knell for companies that employ them. Shame on you.

I got this amp about a week ago. It's get a ton of radio interference. I've tried everything to get rid of it with the exception of replacing it. It's not terrible for the price though. Can't really complain.
