I've had three Panasonic shavers. The first one had two cutter heads, cost $40 and was satisfactory. When Panasonic came out with a three head model for $80 I thought it would be better -- and it was. I really liked it but I dropped it and it broke. By then they had introduced their new "Vortex" super duper shaver which I paid $140 for and expected it would be even better than the predecessors. That was a mistake.

The $140 Panasonic "Vortex" was a complete clunker. It pulled, it left long hairs behind and it never worked in the curve of the neck and around the nose. It came with a cleaning "system" that I used only once because it didn't clean the shaver half as well as a manual rinsing did.

After about six months of use the "Vortex" started up by itself at 3AM, woke me up and wouldn't turn off. I sent it in for warranty service, which took three weeks. About six months later (yesterday)it did the same thing. So I tossed it.

Having learned that the price of a shaver doesn't ensure quality, I picked up the Braun 4775 at Target for $60. I've just used it for the first time and I am impressed! This is an excellent product in every aspect; it is superbly designed and built (typical German quality) and it's been a while since shaving has been this comfortable and close.

I didn't realize how accustomed I'd become to the "Vortex" pulling at every stroke. This Braun didn't pull once and it did a perfect job on the neck and around the nose.

I recommend this shaver very highly. Well worth its competitive price.

I've used it for a few weeks and have been pleasantly surprised. All good electric shavers have the flaw of not been able to cut all the thick hair around the jaw-line and the neck. This shaver is not perfect in that respect, but it is the best I've seen so far. It does a good job. It is also very reasonably priced. It's a good buy.

The charge last for about 3 or 4 shaves for me. It takes a little to long for me to shave with it. I'm not sure if I like the smartfoil or not. When I'm finished and I wash my face I seem to really notice where I missed. Then I have to let my face dry and shave over the missed spots. I also have to press a bit to hard in some spots. Does ok on the neck. It doesn't irritate my skin which I like. Over all it is a good quality shaver with an ok shave.

Just bought a second 4775 to replace one that was failing to hold a battery charge after several years of use. The new shaver performs so well (easy, smooth shave), it makes me think I should have replaced the cutters on the old shaver at least once. (In other words, it might be worth paying Braun's outrageous price to replace the cutters every two or three years.) Before buying my first 4775, I owned a couple of Braun models that had the swiveling-head feature. The 4775 works just as well and costs less. My only complaint about the 4775 is that it has a needlessly sharp ridge on the part that slides up the sideburn trimmer. This ridge was uncomfortable under my thumb, but a couple of minutes work with a moto tool ground the problem away. Now the shaver is just about perfect.
