Book Description

The related petition, with a path for ending cancer now, has been signed by over 20 stars of film, media, and sports including Penelope Cruz, Scarlett Johansson, Bradley Cooper, director Ken Burns, journalist Meredith Vieira, Naomi Watts, Elle Macpherson, and tennis legends Billie Jean King and Chris Evert.

Not quite like any other romance: "Does anyone remember LOVE STORY from the 70's with Ali & Ryan? This is a real updated love story with real people, real emotions, and honest facts. There has never been a woman on the Planet who didn't want to be loved this completely and faithfully. This story could have had a happy ending if Paul had learned the information in the book at the beginning of the journey, so he's provided a road map for those who follow."

As a cancer patient or caregiver, this book should enable you to take control that may be life-saving: "As a retired nurse, I understand too well the unnecessary deaths caused by the way our medical establishment works and the greed of the pharmaceutical companies! I will continue to believe that one day chemo and radiation will be eradicated and considered another dark age treatment! This book is a must read for everyone!! We need this type of information long before something happens because in the throes of it one becomes so drained they cannot decide which way to go!!"

A different kind of memoir: "I've never known a love this great. And you do know it so well after reading about all their adventures. Crazy things. They're so funny and supportive of each other, and so cool together." / "You are transported around the world with this adventerous duo...READ THIS, LEARN FROM IT, JOIN THE FIGHT, SIGN THE PETITION, REJOICE AND WEEP FOR THE LOVERS."

About the Author

Author Paul Sanderson had written articles on nutrition in the past, but it was only after his wife Briggs was diagnosed with stage IV cancer that he began putting in hundreds upon hundreds of hours of research on it. Together they battled her cancer for 15 months. They were finally beginning to win the fight, when he lost her to medical errors in what was meant to be a short hospital stay.  Briggs, a writer-producer-designer, had been making notes for a book to help other cancer patients and caregivers. The facts and figures on cancer treatments; everything that worked and what to avoid; the long, little-known history of the cancer cure immunotherapy. Paul and she had written plays and screenplays together. "Briggs: Love, Cancer, and the Medical Profession" ended up being their last collaboration, in her memory and incorporating her notes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Convinced August 4, 2012

I have already decided that I will never subject myself to the poison of chemotherapy should I ever get cancer. It seems contradictory to think of becoming healthy or well by poisoning yourself. Not only that, but having already spent quite a long time at a University hospital, having almost died some 39 years ago, I experienced much of the uncaring attitudes by the professionals employed there. I experienced downright sadism against me. Having had my eyes opened to this by experience, I have turned to alternative, healthful ways to care for my own body. My heart aches for Paul and for the loss of Briggs, and the helplessness that Paul encountered which ended in such sadness, but I thank him for his example of love and dedication, and for continuing to fight for people to know the truth, and that there is an effective treatment for cancer that has been suppressed. May we all sign the petition, and see Immunotherapy take the place of chemotherapy. Thank you, Paul, for the book, and for all your work in exposing this truth of which everyone should be aware. You made us love Briggs, along with you.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Journey Through Medical Madness August 8, 2012
By thyme
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It's taken me weeks to write a review about this book. After loosing my son to cancer in 2005 it brought back all the feelings of helplessness and confusion the medical profession presses on you.
I've long thought the natural cure for cancer is out there but will never be found or used due to the greed of the pharmaceutical companies and the 'buying' of the doctors. The desperate path this couple took made me heartsick all over again, I praise him for this book and bringing out in the open what really happens when you or someone you love is stricken with this horrible disease. Facing the unknown, doctors that forget what they told you the day before or not bothering to read the charts to see what you are allergic to or can't take or what you've already tried. And those uncaring professionals in the medical field that simply don't care. It's unacceptable what patients have to endure while so sick.
I agree with another poster, the petition was hard to sign, after three tries it took my name but not my comments.
Thank-you again for writing this, it's stayed with me long after I finished reading it.

3.0 out of 5 stars a couple on a journey February 25, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
At the end of this journey, the wife isn't honestly talking with her spouse about her desires and feelings - his are the ones told in this book. I found this to be a very sad ending, because the husband has researched a number of items to 'cure' his wife's cancer, but with multiple metastatic tumors in multiple organs, the end is in obviously in sight for almost everyone. There is a point at which death may be a welcome relief, but it's not allowed to be.
Now, the author's premise is that we are not using all of the best technologies in fighting cancer, and from his research, I believe that to be true. And, if those technologies/remedies were used, the cancer's progress may have been slowed, halted, and/or cured. In that regard, this is a compelling story, one that should be read by those who treat cancer, in it's many forms.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eye opener for doctors September 25, 2012
By Sdaskar
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I am an OBGY & doing a Fellowship in Regenerative Medicine. This book was a major eye opener for me.It is very unfortunate that Briggs & Paul had to go through this ordeal. Though I don't deal with serious disease in my everyday practice, i realised that there are many things that as doctors we don't go over with a fine toothed comb. Now i have become more circumspect about prescribing any medication to my patients . I know that a lot of doctors are not comfortable if patients ask a lot of questions, but i think its time that we doctors changed our thinking. Its not humanly possible for us to keep up with all the information available & the extensive research that is done now a days. We should look at having a partnership with our patients in deciding their care. Hats off to Mr. Sanderson's research. i am sure a lot of patients can benefit if they have an open discussion with their doctors & their doctors can also help in processing the information based on their knowledge . We get our biggest "high" when we see a patient getting well. But any illness is much more personal to a patient & their care-givers than to their doctor & therefore the kind of research a patient/ care-giver can do is definitely much different than what a busy doctor will do, because the stakes are different.
I do hope that Briggs' doctors & healthcare workers read this book & find out what they can do differently the next time. I am sure many of them thought that they were doing a good job!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must-Read Book August 11, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book is difficult to read in spots but yet you can't stop reading it. It isn't pleasant to realize what this woman, so full of life and warmth, had to endure in the last year of her life. You see, in example after example, how the medical professionals and their staff put their needs first, ahead of the patient's needs. What's enraging is that so much of what Briggs experienced is also happening to many other people in hospitals and clinics, every day. The health system is broken and has been for many years. I think every adult should read this book and realize that they or someone they love could go through the same thing, if we don't change the way we look at cancer and other diseases.
