The order was shipped from the distributor within 2 hours of my placing it with Amazon and arrived in 2 business days. It took all of 15 minutes to install and worked perfectly. The authority with which this starter turns my engine over is impressive!

I learned some things while solving the problem and researching the replacement. I bought this machine used and the starter had been replaced by someone who is supposed to be a professional. The replacement had a plastic pinion gear and my engine had a steel ring gear. Plastic gears and steel gears do not play well together. If you don't otherwise know, use a magnet to see if the ring gear is steel. If it is get a starter with a steel pinion gear. If the ring gear isn't magnetic it is either plastic or aluminum. In either case get a starter with a plastic pinion gear.

Beware of starters advertised as Heavy Duty, claiming to be longer, and costing half again as much. They are the same length as the standard units which are described as Heavy Duty in the fine print.

I read several forum discussions about after market starters and am confident this starter is the equal of an OEM unit costing 5 times as much.

You can use the Briggs engine model number, just google it to find the right Briggs number for the starter. Then google that number and you will find several online purchase choices. I always like to order through Amazon, if things don't go well Amazon has my back.

The starter on my old mower burned out so I started looking for a replacement.
A starter from a B & S dealer was much higher than I wanted to pay, so I went looking for one on the internet. Found this one and ordered it. As soon as I received it, I put it on the mower and tried it.... Excellent !! Starts even better now than it did when the mower was new!

It fixed my problem within the price range I could afford. Search info was better than average over most sites. Only time will tell now. Longevity of the product's services must be weighed before I can bless it further. Happy so far.

My mom has a fondness for Sears rider mowers. I do not know what causes this behavior, I certainly have not inherited it. But regardless, they tend to go through starters about every 4 years on average and I wind up replacing them.

Replacement "brand-name" (also made in China) starters cost about 3x what this one did and it looks identical. I have used this one for a couple of years now and it starts just as well as the original.

SUGGESTION: If you think your starter is bad because it wont spin the crankshaft with a fully charged battery, check the valve clearance first. On Briggs motors they tend to drift out of alignment and when they do, it acts just like a bad starter.
