Great Product So Far,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: BRIGGS STARTER 14 TOOTH Steel Gear 693551, 693552
The order was shipped from the distributor within 2 hours of my placing it with Amazon and arrived in 2 business days. It took all of 15 minutes to install and worked perfectly. The authority with which this starter turns my engine over is impressive!
I learned some things while solving the problem and researching the replacement. I bought this machine used and the starter had been replaced by someone who is supposed to be a professional. The replacement had a plastic pinion gear and my engine had a steel ring gear. Plastic gears and steel gears do not play well together. If you don't otherwise know, use a magnet to see if the ring gear is steel. If it is get a starter with a steel pinion gear. If the ring gear isn't magnetic it is either plastic or aluminum. In either case get a starter with a plastic pinion gear. Beware of starters advertised as Heavy Duty, claiming to be longer, and costing half again as much. They are the same length as the standard units which are described as Heavy Duty in the fine print. I read several forum discussions about after market starters and am confident this starter is the equal of an OEM unit costing 5 times as much. You can use the Briggs engine model number, just google it to find the right Briggs number for the starter. Then google that number and you will find several online purchase choices. I always like to order through Amazon, if things don't go well Amazon has my back.

Junk Starter,
This review is from: BRIGGS STARTER 14 TOOTH Steel Gear 693551, 693552
I ordered a starter from DB Electrical for my lawnmower. The first starter failed within 3 months. I contacted them and they sent another one out with instructions that if the second one failed to return both for a refund. The second one failed and so I returned both. They wrote back and said that since it had been a year since the first starter was purchased it was out of warranty, even though the second starter was only in service for 2-3 months. So now I am out the purchase price and the return shipping. Don't deal with these people their service and products are terrible!!

The model number matched my old unit that broke on my Craftsmen lawnmower, I was very happy that it was in perfect condition and worked. It is a pleasure doing business with people who honestly price and list their items.
