5.0 out of 5 stars Top toy for Grand-kids this year!, December 27, 2005
By
This review is from: BRIO Mountain Adventure Figure 8 Set (Toy)
Every year parents and grandparents search for the ultimate toy - the one that the kids love and spend hours playing with while others are piled up under the tree still in their boxes....well, this is that toy! First of all, it was easy to assemble while a two and 3 1/2 year old waited impatiently. They were both mesmerized and quickly began piecing the tracks together to help. It was quickly assembled into the figure eight shown on the box, no instructions needed. The two little ones spent hours playing....no derailments either. These cars stay on their track even when the pieces aren't perfectly aligned. This is an equal opportunity toy and I loved seeing my 3 1/2 year old daughter play with something that wasn't doll related for a change. She and her two year old boy cousin each had a separate set, which some of the bigger "boys" turned into one bigger track, but each had their own set of two cars - so fighting was minimal. If purchasing for multiple children to share I would recommend adding additional engine cars and passenger cars to eliminate competition for control. There is enough room to have multiple cars at different intervals on the track simultaneously.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great starter set!, April 20, 2006

If you're not sure if your little one will really be "into" these train sets, this one is a great one to try out. It's more fun when you get all the extra buildings, but if it's an iffy situation, then I highly recommend this set. We bought this set for our little one because he just wasn't too sure about these trains. However, after he received it, he found out that he liked them and well, now we have a bunch of them! The $40 is not much to invest n a toy that they're not going to play with either! I just wish this set had more things with it besides just the track and the train. However, you can get a little better deal if you buy the track separately from Maxim, who makes Brio trains now, and the train separately as well. This train will chew up the batteries pretty quickly unless you use Duracell. Energizer only makes it two days in this train but Duracell makes it two-and-a-half weeks. Other than that, highly recommend this toy!

I bought this train set for my 22 month-old son and he loves it. While he needs some help setting up the tracks, it's a fun activity we can do together. I look forward to adding to it as he gets older. I think I will also purchase a non-battery operated train (the train that was included with this set requires batteries) that he can push along the tracks because he tends to wear out the battery on a daily basis.

My son loves his train set he got for Christmas. It is really nice to have the battery operated engine too because he can push it or just turn it on and watch it while playing with other animal toys that go to watch the train.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect - Except for batteries, January 15, 2007

Great starter set. However, for a 2 year old I would recommend buying a second train without batteries - it will help them to play with the set better. Overall a great buy.

You can't beat this set for scenery. The train itself is beautiful, with its mountain design; the bear family is sweet, and I love the trees and cave for the bears. The mountain tunnel is attractive too, although it's low enough that a few of our taller trains (the Little Engine That Could and our Maple Landmark name train, for instance) have clearance issues. My almost-two-year-old son loves the engine and says "blue" repeatedly when he's playing with it.
Sadly, though, this "mountain" engine lacks the power to handle serious hills, especially in reverse. We have some bigger/steeper mountains, and the engine usually just doesn't want to pull up them, even without any cars to pull. Our initial battery lasted a few days, but now we have to put a new one in just about every day.
Although the engine lacks the power I expected, I really love the mountain set; it looks really great with the Brio mountain tunnel that comes with the moose, and we've had a lot of fun with all the components. This is a really great starter set or addition to existing set.
I recommend the Brio mountain tunnel with the moose as a perfect addition to this set, if you can find the tunnel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Great Train: I give it 4 1/2 stars, July 14, 2006
This review is from: BRIO Mountain Adventure Figure 8 Set (Toy)
The train set is great. My two year old received it as a birthday present. He loves playing with it. His baby brother is mesmerized by the train. We are going to have to buy a diffrent engine for him. The both love it.
I don't give it five stars because they love playing with it soo much that I have to change the batteries quite frequently. It was a battery a day. We bought a diffrent engine that required no batteries and limit the use of this engine to save on batteries.

It is nice having a battery engine bacause they enjoy the train run through the tracks.
