This thing is large and mine shipped fully assembled. I'm guessing they are clearing out overstock store displays or something because it's about 75% off of Brio list price for the set and table. I think Brio kept the description intentionally vague on this item to avoid upsetting their other retailers. The destinations have a few more plastic parts than the old school wooden Brio I grew up with but the extra sound features I think make up for it. Overall a solid deal. The picture of the item is accurate for what they are selling.

It looks like amazon has updated the pictures and is now shipping a nice but basic Brio set. Still a decent deal but not the same as the set this review was written for.

Yes, this is a good deal - it is the exact train set that is pictured, which sells for over twice the price of this set without the table. However, this set is glued down to the playboard (it was obviously created to be a display train) so you lose a lot of the fun and versatility of a normal set. Also, I should mention, the glue job on mine was very sloppy; you can see globs of glue at the edges.

This would be a great set to buy for a play area at a church, waiting room, etc. For home use, you may want to consider buying something that allows the child to put it together and take it apart, and that can grow with other sets.

BRIO - 96 Piece Brio Railway Set with Play Table

I bought this train table for my son's third birthday. I could not believe the price! This train table is on other sites is selling for $500. Well, when I ordered it the other reviews weren't up, yet, and I found out why it was so inexpensive. The track is glued to the table. After some research I found out this table has been discountinued and I think they are selling the brand new store displays they have left in stock. I think it will be perfect for my son so I don't have to set up the tracks for him everyday like I do his Little People playsets but as he gets older I want him to be creative and be able to manipulate the set himself. You can order an additional insert for the table and tracks, stations, misc. and just put the new insert in the base as your child grows. I am happy with my purchase I just wish I would have known ahead of time that it was a display table.
