This complete starter set is a very nice jumping off point into the world of wooden train sets. The train and tracks are well built and nicely functional. Both have withstood the less than gentle play of a very interested 2 1/2 year old boy. The figures fit well into the cars, ride the elevator (with it's pleasing *ding*) or sit on the bench at the railway station. There are many opportunities for fun (and educational) play here.We purchased additional cars and another engine at the same time, adding yet more fun (and educational) play for our 2 1/2yo son. Brio makes wonderful toys. Given the level of interest our son shows in his train set, we will definitely add on to this set in the near future.

This set is packed with 38 great pieces. It's fun to setup standalone or to use the pieces with other sets. My two year old doesn't play with the three little people much but he has taken his engines around this track many times. He thought the elevator on the platform was pretty cool when he discovered it.In conjunction with a couple of packs of Suretrack Track Clips this particular set can be moved around the house without disassembly.

You just can't seem to go wrong with Sweden. They have good laws on maternal leave, produce the safe and fun to drive Volvo cars, and continue to churn out these wooden wonders year after year.
In an era when toy trains are a dying breed or are made of cheap plastic, Brio continues to produce the wonderful magnetic toy train systems that I remember from my youth. The wood is very high quality and the toys are "free expression" toys in a sense. There's no flashing lights or talking voices, just a blank piece of paper for the child to do whatever he pleases with them. And the possibilities grow for these trains over time as well. This is a good starter set (I got my starter set in 1991 and it's similar to this one) that you can add on to. I know the playsets they make vary from year to year anymore, but I had a school and a hospital among other things. Furthermore, the track can be placed in many different ways, more track can be added, and items such as drawbridges and tunnels can be placed to train your young civil engineer in training. I'm 20 years old and still have a use for my old Brio set. Today it's what I place underneath my Christmas tree (my grandfather does the same with his old Lionel sets from his youth). Obviously this is a toy that I'll have around for years to come. I got a good number of years out of this toy as an actual toy back in the day (before I started using it as a decorative piece). The cost might be a bit shocking to people who are not familiar with Brio toys, but you definitely get what you pay for. Read the Brio website (the one I found in English is for the UK) and you'll see just how well-made these toys really are. You can't find that in some cheap plastic knockoff!
