This review is from: BRITISH WARSHIPS IN THE AGE OF SAIL 1603 - 1714: Design Construction, Careers and Fates (Hardcover)
This book continues Rif Winfield's series on British warships in the age of sail (plus the related book covering the age of steam and sail 1815 to 1889 with David Lyon). It takes the history back more than century. These books provide an amazingly complete and thoroughly researched set of details on virtually all the British warships over nearly 3 centuries. This book starts from the ships on the list when King James succeeded Queen Elizabeth in 1603 and continues through the Commonwealth to the end of Queen Anne's reign. As before, it provides a good history of the each ship and information on their design and attibutes - A must for Naval Historians - and it is a pity that information of this quality is not available for the other great navies of these eras
