5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book!, September 14, 2004

This review is from: BRONX CHEER (Paperback)
Very well written book that keeps the pace fast and lets the reader run alongside the characters as they scramble to get those tickets. What I liked best about the book was the fast moving plot with a lot of unexpected twists and turns making it an enjoyable guessing game. The baseball backdrop is described well but the characters and their struggles are the real story here. Thumbs up!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Entertaining., September 14, 2004
This review is from: BRONX CHEER (Paperback)
Very entertaining book. I liked how the author really kept the focus on the fans and what they were going through along with setting the stage for a big event such as this. I think the characters really drive the story which makes it stronger. Not just the main characters but also the eccentric supporting characters really make it a unique plot that appeals to a wide variety of readers. It is written in such a way, that the readers is left to ponder what they would do in all of the suspenseful and bizarre situations the characters face. Very tight plot and the ending was original. I liked Dave's previous book Datoga Island and I love what he's done with Bronx Cheer.

5.0 out of 5 stars VERY GOOD BOOK, September 14, 2004
This review is from: BRONX CHEER (Paperback)
The plot moves at a brisk pace and there is little time wasted in getting the story off the ground. In fact, right from the opening page, it's as though the reader is brought into the story while it's still moving. The second novel from this talented writer begins in a mundane office with the narrator contemplating the situation. The plot twists are surprising which leaves the reader off balance as to what will happen next and how the character will maneuver out of certain spots. The main characters are ordinary people working ordinary office jobs who, one day before the big game, discover that they have a chance at the elusive tickets through a contact of a co-worker. What ensues is a frantic chase to find the contact and track down those tickets. But they are forced to dance past crooked ticket brokers, shady government officials, and even some of their own friends whose intentions are not so friendly. Davé is also able to sprinkle in a touch of romance just enough to fit perfectly into the otherwise suspenseful, hectic pace of the story. It is a page turner for sure. The reader never quite knows what will happen next.
