4.0 out of 5 stars A great book for all children with visions of spydom dancing in their heads, August 25, 2010
When I was young, my friends, relatives of my age and myself were fascinated by the concept of spying. We would spy on people by peeking around corners and looking in windows and make up elaborate stories of the consequences of our spying. However, the most elaborate story is no match for reality, so this book is one we would have loved.
It contains actual stories of the escapades of spies, all of which were a matter of life and death, yet some of which are amusing. In terms of war, whether it is hot or cold, deception, double-crossing, lies disguised as truth and truth disguised as lies are the ammunition that spies use. All of these tactics appear in these short stories of spy activity. Most are from World War II, but there are a few from the American Civil War and World War I.
Unlike most spy stories targeted at young people, this book is educational, the stories are real, there is a sense of history exuding from these fascinating accounts of the antics of the most (in)famous of spies.

4.0 out of 5 stars A truley funny book, October 17, 2001
A Kid's Review
This review is from: ENC/BROWN/WAC/SPIES (Encyclopedia Brown Books (Paperback)) (Paperback)
I loved the book. It was cool how the stories were true. The stories were funny and were all fact. The only thing the book lacked in was how big the book was I wish it had been bigger because I really enjoyed it. I highly recomend it. I know I'll be reading of Brown book's.
