5.0 out of 5 stars Easy, Concise Read. Great book making an easy topic even easier
I have really fallen in love with this book. The majority of information says to either go with this or High-Yield for Behavioral Science and I feel I made the right choice.

Although the information in both is predominantly the same (written by the same author) and would more than likely have the same effect on your board score, I enjoy this book much...

3.0 out of 5 stars Mostly the same as the Behavioral Sciences textbook
Essentially the BRS trims down about 100 or so pages from the textbook. However, the questions are much the same (same author), and the concepts are exactly the same. Furthermore, Ms. Fadem promotes a leftist agenda throughout the book, presenting opinion as fact in many scenarios. This is more a gripe about the author than the material itself. If you have the...

I have really fallen in love with this book. The majority of information says to either go with this or High-Yield for Behavioral Science and I feel I made the right choice.

Although the information in both is predominantly the same (written by the same author) and would more than likely have the same effect on your board score, I enjoy this book much more.

Versus High-Yield:

I find that information is presented in a better pattern that is easier to read.

QUESTIONS, QUESTIONS, QUESTIONS. If you're like me, what you learn from doing a sample board question is much more potent that any amount of reading. At the end of each chapter is 15-20 questions that reinforce key topics in the chapter, as well as some topics that I believe to be relatively obscure. This really helps me learn and keeps me entertained.

The only drawback is not one that I have personally identified, but in the back of FA, it says the ethics chapter is short, however it has all in the information in FA 2009 ethics section and then some, so I think it should be sufficient. Anyway, in summary this is a product I would definitely recommend because I have had a lot of fun reading it and I have learned a lot.

Hope this was helpful and good luck to everyone taking the step 1.

5.0 out of 5 stars What makes it so great?, August 16, 2008
Taking this class in medical school was a breeze with this book. I read it cover to cover easily. The author is very good about keeping each individual chapter only a handful of pages long, but the text doesn't become too wordy or detailed. Diagrams are very well done, and it would be worth it to have this book for these alone. However, this book isn't the perfect reference. It is a little long for a review before the boards, especially since this is a low yield topic. Though I highly recommend using it during class. If you want to slim the book down even more, the high-yield series has one that is equally as good.

This is one of the better BRS books. It's an awesome, concise review and study aid for the USMLE and one's Behavioral medical school course.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't neglect behavioral sciences, May 21, 2011

This review is from: BRS Behavioral Science (Board Review Series) (Paperback)
This book is easy, concise and comprehensive. Most people ignore behavioral sciences because it is easy and "low yield" but that is their fatal mistake on the test. There are a significant number of behavioral questions and mastering this book WILL raise your score. The book is so short that it is worth going over at least once.

4.0 out of 5 stars Seems good! Review Edited: 2/28/2011, February 5, 2011

This review is from: BRS Behavioral Science (Board Review Series) (Paperback)
This is the book my psych profs selected to supplement our class lecture. It seems well organized and the questions for each chapter are generally good. There are a few areas where I feel a little more information would be nice (esp for information in tables) but that is hard to do in a review book format. I have noticed at least one question on the website to be marked wrong but it was so blantant anyone should pick it out fine. So far, I have not run across any wrongly marked questions in the book. Overall, it is probably good enough to do well on the behavioral questions on Step 1 (but I haven't taken that yet so...).

Edit:

There are far too many errors in the online questions. For example, it states cipro is a topo I inhibitor in a question on chemo drugs. Wow! But seriously, if you use the online questions be on the lookout for faulty information.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't be beat, April 12, 2010

This review is from: BRS Behavioral Science (Board Review Series) (Paperback)
This is really the book of all behavioral science books. The questions inside are kind of on the lame side, as are most BRS series questions since they don't really look like the USMLE format. But, the content is brilliant, concise and understandable, even if you didn't understand all the biostats the first time you were taught it. You can go through all of this material in about a day during board review and pick up easy points on the test.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for an Overall Outline, December 9, 2009
This review is from: BRS Behavioral Science (Board Review Series) (Paperback)
This book was a great outline to guide my studies. It made points clear and emphasized the important concepts. I used it as the main book for my behavioral medicine course and plan to use it for board review. I would recommend this to any student.
