Was not a big fan...at all.,
By
This review is from: BRS Gross Anatomy (Board Review Series) (Paperback)
I really think highly of most of the books in the BRS series. This book was an exception. BRS Physiology, BRS biochemistry, and BRS Pathology were outstanding and very pertinent to material tested on the USMLE. I even thought BRS pharmacology was pretty good despite others having mixed feelings about it. This book is by far the WORST in the BRS series that I have encountered.
Anatomy is not a heavily tested topic on USMLE, and the anatomy related questions are becoming more and more clinically based. This book lacked that type of focus. I found it difficult to read, with poor diagrams/illustrations, and filled with clinically irrelevant minutia. This book would probably be more interesting to those pursuing graduate degrees in anatomy...maybe as a review book for them. So unless you have a particular interest in anatomy, this is NOT a good book for board review, or even as a supplement for medical school anatomy. For board review "High Yield Anatomy" combined with "First Aid.." is sufficient. For medical school anatomy, check out the books by Moore such as Clinically Oriented Anatomy and Essential Clinical Anatomy.

Only just another anatomy text,
By A Customer
This review is from: BRS Gross Anatomy (Board Review Series) (Paperback)
This book certainly does not deserve the positive comments it has, true it is a small book compared to other anatomy texts, but it also lacks alot of the important details and fine points that are regarded as been essential to a medical course in anatomy. It has terribly few diagrams and even those which are there are of little value since they're too small, and don't often enough tell you the important points. It's an OK book, just like any other text on the market with nothing special to it. And it may be suitable and highly regarded only to those studying at the institutuion the author teaches at.

not good at all...,
This review is from: BRS Gross Anatomy (Board Review Series) (Paperback)
I bought this book at the end of the semester to review for the gross anatomy shelf exam. I quickly discovered that the text is horrible, diagrams lacking, and the questions are FULL of errors. I loved BRS neuroanatomy and physiology, but this book isn't very good. I put it down after half a day of frustration and just focused on Netters (and kicked butt on the shelf).

If you cant stand looking at an informative picture, buy it!,

This book is cerainly a disgrace for BRS in general. Unlike the beautiful Biochemistry and Physiology BRS, this Anatomy book is really a disaster at least reputation wise for the BRS. Yu don't believe me, just buy it and you will NOT want to study from it. The most crucial thing in Anatomy is a good diagram, but there are few diagrams and they are horrible anyways!

Not good, not bad,

This book had so many rave reviews that I had to buy it. However it appears to be US centric and geared towards the USMLE not gross anatomy. It is incredibly brief and does not contain the depth of anatomical detail that is needed to pass British or Australian medical school exams. Aside from the lack of sufficient detail the diagrams are just average. There are a number of other textbooks that are better, for a book of approximate size I recommend Last's Anatomy, which is exceptional. In my opinion this is not a bad text, but it's not that great either.

I used this text to study anatomy in Med School and to prepare for board exams and this has all of the high yield material you need to know. It's also good for surgery rotations when being asked by preceptors about various nerve injuries (especially brachial plexus injuries) or anatomical landmarks. VERY HELPFUL! I still refer to this text!
