5.0 out of 5 stars Great gift for 4 or 5 year old, August 3, 2007

Bought for our nephew who turned 5, he loved it. Got the idea from the recommended gifts for boys. I don't know any 4 or 5 year old boys who don't like to dig/play in the dirt or don't like dinosaurs, so if you aren't sure what to get, this is a great choice.

Toy was messy during the dig, however a cookie sheet and towel help keep it contained. 5 and 7 yr old loved digging the pieces out. Great for a rainy day inside.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun for 5 year olds, September 10, 2008

Our 5 year old loved this. We got both the Pirate Treasure and this Dinosaur one. He got to discover the hidden treasures in the rock. We got to practice safety by donning the included safety glasses and doing this outside in a safe place. He loved recovering the pieces and putting together the resultant skeleton. He played with the both the pirate treasure and the skeleton for a few weeks!

Down sides ... the rocks are held together by some stinky glue. It smells like what I remember as Foraldehyde (but I didn't check the box to see what it really was). Also, the silly hammer provided wasn't heavy enought to whack the rock apart. I used a real hammer and then changed to the provided one for detail work. Eventually my son got tired of hitting the rock, and asked me to do it.

Overall, though, he loved these.
