This is a "find your fate" adventure in which the reader is faces with choices that lead to several different storylines. The reader of this book gets to "be" Golden Girl, a warrior queen. The adventure unfolds as Golden Girl must rescue her beloved unicorn companion while protecting the magic Gemstone from her enemy, Dragon Queen. Smart choices are rewarded with happy endings, while foolish ones end in disaster. Golden Girl and her companions, the Guardians, are good role models for children, as they display courage, honor, and intelligence. The book is especially empowering for girls, since powerful female characters tend to be scarce in children's literature. My biggest complaint with the book is that it's too short to allow much room for characterization. Still, it's fertile inspiration for daydreams in all latent warrior queens!
