1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointment July 19, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
What a disappointment. I own 2x WZR-HP-AG300H' as well as 1x WZR-HP-G300NH' and I see this low power TX issue on both models. (With a lot of fiddling the WZR-HP-G300NH can be made to perform but its finicky.) I've had had to "bench' my Buffalo solution and I am unfortunately back to using 2x DIR-855's from D-Link to service my location again as the Buffalo routers will not push more than 13 to 15 dbm' where my D-Link DIR-855's is at least pushing 23+ dbm and the D-Links are two years older technology. Whats worse is I'm beyond my time that I can return these Buffalo routers. I'm stuck with them. I really wanted to support Buffalo here too. Their NAS products are great and I wanted to continue to speak highly of this company but getting these routers to perform at the published marketing specs is impossible with the existing firmware. I really wanted to be an advocate of Buffalo wireless technology but these WAP's are flat out duds. I'm seeing about 1/3 the coverage distance with my two WZR-HP-AG300H''s than I get with my considerably older two D-Link DIR-855's. I feel duped. I really needed the additional range and I thought the WZR-HP-AG300H' was the ticket. I wasted a lot of money here. I'm sorry but I can not recommend this product.

Update 8/18/2011:
Anyone other than me notice that the marketing material available online (here, Buffalo.com, NewEgg) for the WZR-HP-AG300H' has recently changed? A lot of the data regarding the units "high power" features are now missing. This does not give me a good feeling that the TX Power issues of the WZR-HP-AG300H' are ever going to be truly addressed. This change sure feels like the start of a "sweep under the rug."

After testing the "user friendly" firmware (not DD-WRT) at the suggestion of Buffalo.com forum users with these WZR-HP-AG300H' they still do not outperform my much older D-Link DIR-855's in any configuation. Using InSSIDer I see that I get worse signal in any configuration I can put these WZR-HP-AG300H' in to and I have tried many configurations. I'm sure I can get some use for these WZR-HP-AG300H' as wireless bridges somewhere in my network but I have to "bench" the WZR-HP-AG300H''s as my main router and additional wireless AP for now. I have since purchased a competitors product and got the coverage/performance I was looking for in less than 15 minutes after taking the product out of the box.

Good luck Buffalo. I sincerely hope you get these WZR-HP-AG300H' to perform like they should have someday and I'm even more sorry it came to this point between us. Cheers.

To the potential buyers of this product.... Caveat Emptor.

Update 8/23/2011:
I purchased an ASUS RT-N56U (from Amazon) to replace the failure that the WZR-HP-AG300H is and I am here to say that not only does it outperform the WZR-HP-AG300H in all areas of my location but the ASUS RT-N56U also easily outperforms my D-Link DIR-855's as well. Coverage problem solved with ASUS RT-N56U. I'll write a full review of the ASUS RT-N56U soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good for a 5GHz wireless bridge! April 14, 2011

I bought 2 of them so I could setup a wireless bridge using the (so far) uncongested 5GHz band.
Setting it up was relativity easy once you read the manual, which I don't normally do. This router is highly configurable, thanks to the DD-WRT based firmware.
Once I got the bridge working, I could get a rate of about 4MBytes/sec between the routers, which is not really fast, but it serves my purposes.
I live in a condo, so I couldn't test its range, but I've had some Buffalo's High Power routers before and they probably have the best range (compared to other routers) without having to resort to huge antennas.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product April 30, 2011

I purchased this router because my wrt160n router from Cisco kept dropping connections. Setup was easy and fast. I have 2 laptops, TV through a game receiver and a Sony blue ray player all connected up. I had no trouble connection them. The game adapter would not work with my Cisco. I am getting maximum speed on down and up loads about 20% more than the Cisco. I have yet to have any issues. I would definitely recommend this router at this great price.
