We are so HAPPY, mainly I'm happy the husband is happy. We did the keurig thing for a while, and the husband swore it was tasting like plastic. So after spending HOURS researching drip type coffee makers...and finding out that people complain about those tasting like plastic too. I finally splurged and spent a little more than I wanted too on this machine.

We've had it for a week and we LOVE it! The coffee is dope, awesome, STELLAR! It's easy to use, pretty straight forward. And it's speedy too. The first time I used this I had gotten little sleep and had a migraine the day/night before...so I was under the influence of that medication. And I didn't screw it up. So that should be a testament to Bunn.

I highly recommend buying a Bunn. From my research they have excellent customer service, make quality products, and great coffee! Hope this review saves people from spending several hours trying to figure out what coffee maker to buy. :)

I have always had Bunn Coffee makers and my last one lasted 12 years at which point recently it just gave out. I bought this unit to replace my old Bunn and shipping was quick and everything arrived in one piece. The unit looks ok but it appears that Bunn has certainly cut corners compared to older units made years ago as the unit looks very cheaply made. The unit brews a pot of coffee within about three minutes and coffee itself is good. The issue is after about 4 days, I started smelling this awful burning smell in my house almost like plastic or wires melting. After sniffing around every electrical item in my home, I finally walked into the kitchen and smelled the coffee maker which is where the smell is coming from. It smells like something is burning or melting inside the unit. The unit itself is very hot to the touch on the outside which models made years ago were never that way. I have sent in an email to Bunn and am awaiting their response on my problem. I am afraid to leave the unit plugged in at this point as I have read reports about fires allegedly being caused by some Bunn units. One additional note, my last bunn came with an actual heavy duty spring tool for declining, this unit comes with a very cheap plastic piece almost like a wire tie for deliming. Bunn, if you need to raise the price by a few bucks to maintain quality, I would still happily fork over the extra money for a high quality unit that is made well and will last.

Update 11/17/13
Bunn told me that it is normal for the smell in the beginning and that it will dissipate and after a few more days it has. I updated my star rating to three because I am still disappointed in Bunn for cutting the quality on their units. No way are they built like ones from years ago. Sorry Bunn.

This is probably the fastest drip machine you can get. As soon as you close the lid it begins dripping. Very cool. 3 Stars though because somehow there is always a few drips of water underneath the rear edge of the machine... and with our hard water, doesn't take long to leave a scaley film on the counter where it sits. I'm not sure how it's leaking... or if it's some condensation or what. Also - I wash the pot every couple days in the sink with one of those plastic brushes that has the soap inside..... spinning it around the inside I totally popped through the glass shattering it. I've done this same thing for about 20 years and never had that happen. I'm not rough on it - I clean all our wine glasses, drink glasses, and this in the same way - by hand. So seems the pot is a little too thin and fragile. I'm going to keep it though - I hear they have great customer service so hopefully replace to fix the possible leak, and maybe the pot. I'll just be careful. Another advantage to the immediate drip is that you can poor a single glass of water in the top (or whatever amount), place your cup on the burner, close the lid, and that same amount of piping hot water will drip in to your cup immediately. Just have to keep that basket clean. Pretty handy for cooking or other hot beverages.

Update - called to explain the water leak issue - they said they should 'get that replaced right away'. Customer service was excellent - I never registered or showed them my Amazon receipt.... just sending me a new one, and paying shipping to return the old one. She also told me of about 7 different stores Bunn sells replacement carafes for about $12.

I bought the Bunn NHS coffee maker because it would fit under my 14 inch kitchen cabinet.
Although I wanted a coffee maker with a permanent filter, one that would shut off automatically, and one that had a stainless carafe, I had to settle for the Bunn NHS which makes the BEST cup of coffee I have ever brewed.

If I had a taller cabinet, I might choose a different model, but it would definitely be a Bunn.

In my never-ending search for the perfect cup of home-brewed coffee, I have gone through countless brands of coffee makers, from Mr. Coffee, Tassimo, Hamilton Beach, Black & Decker, you name it -- we've owned it in my home. All machines left me disappointed, though I got close to coffee Utopia once with a Hamilton Beach K-Cup brewer. Sadly, after a year of regular use, it stopped working properly and wasn't worth fixing. Enter the BUNN 10 cup VELOCITY BREW. For just around the cost of a family meal in a restaurant, you can purchase a commercial grade quality coffee brewer which consistently provides a steaming, flavorful cup of coffee right in your own home. The key is in the heated barrels in the rear of the machine. These must be kept filled with water, which is constantly heated and ready to mix with the fresh cold water you add as you make your pot of coffee each day. All you need is paper filters (they recommend BUNN brand but I used the dollar store brand and was just as happy with taste) and fresh ground coffee, and within minutes you are enjoying a hot and aromatic cup of joe. I was skeptical only at first with the instructions that told us we had to leave the unit "on" all the time, but this didn't pose any problems, no overheated units, no excessive electric bills. The reason for this is so that those two rear barrels of water stay heated, thus allowing you to just pour cold water in the top receptacle each time you are ready to brew another pot. The easy slide top opens and closes the water well so that once you close it, the machine begins brewing. The cold, fresh water mixes with the heated, steaming water, and the result is coffee as good as you will get at the local diner! There is a plastic deliming stick with instructions on how to clean the unit every so often. I make 4-6 cups at a time but can't wait to host my next family gathering where I will make a full 10 cups. I have finally found my perfect at-home coffee brewer, and it's BUNN!
