4.0 out of 5 stars Another blast of good sound, great new music you can WATCH, March 12, 2008
This review is from: BURN TO SHINE SEATTLE, WA 01.27.07 (DVD)
The Burn To Shine series has churned out another in a series of inventive ways (whether their intention or not) to showcase another tremendous local music scene. This time it's Seattle. While it may not blow you away as immediately as the last one featuring Portland, OR, rest assured you will be rewatching this collection of performances again and again discovering some of these extremely diverse new talents---National talents that happen to hail from or reside in Seattle. As in Bob Mould's appearance on the Washington DC Burn To Shine, a legendary Eddie Vedder is brought in and does not disappoint performing solo.
The Long Winters' display of intensity in their live experience will surely demand the attention of their recorded work for watchers. Solo songs by David Bazan (speaking of intensity) and Benjamin Gibbard showed what they do best as well and have never sounded better.
Volume 5 (with volume 4 from Louisville being released out of order later this year) is rounded out fittingly by a soulful performance by Jesse Sykes and the Sweet Heareafter--Sykes is one of the most amazing new performers in America in my opinion and the group consumed with rhythm and blues wisdom beyond their years.
One or more of your favorite new bands is on this DVD....It just works that way every time with Burn To Shine.

This is actually about the house that was on the site where our new home sits, so this is especially cool for us. Randomly enough, I knew Ben back in the Bellingham days as his girlfriend was good friends with mine. Small world. Very cool project and video.

I own all 4 of the released Burn to Shine DVDs, and I gotta say... I thought Seattle would be a really good one, but it's my least favorite. It's still good, but if the Seattle one is the first time you see any of these, make sure to give the rest of them a chance!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great song choices!, August 17, 2008
This review is from: BURN TO SHINE SEATTLE, WA 01.27.07 (DVD)
This DVD is a must have. Some of the greater Seattle sounds are showcased and provide a shining representation of this wonderful city and its sound...
Too bad its only limited to houses that are getting ready to be demolished; if only this could be done on a monthly basis...
A great DVD for the music enthusiast...
