Control Panel
The BV7970's motorized, slide-down detachable panel is where you'll find the 3.6" widescreen TFT monitor. Enjoy an 1152 x 234 resolution on this brilliant screen as you watch video or navigate through settings. For those who hit a bumper now and then while parking, you can use the backup camera input with any number of backup cams to get a little extra control.

Intuitive illuminated controls make using the unit a snap, and a 3.5 mm jack on the front panel gives you A/V input for use with external audio and video devices, from MP3 players to video game systems.

Media Flexibility
From DVD to DivX, the BV7970 has you covered. Slide down the control panel to reveal the disc slot. You can enjoy media on DVDs, VCDs, HDCDs, DVD+R/RWs, DVD-R/RWs, CDs, and CD-R/RWs.

If you've digitized your media collection, you'll find support for MP3 and WMA audio files, along with video support for JPG images and even DivX, Xvid, and MP4 video files. Burn them to disc or use the SD/MMC memory card slot located beneath the DVD slot. NTSC/PAL compatible.

iPod Interface
Using the optional IPC60 integration cable, you can connect your iPod using the data port and play your stored music through your BOSS head unit. The artist and song information on your iPod will appear in the head unit display. When using a video iPod with a BV7970 you can even watch videos on the head unit monitor.

AM/FM Tuner
The BV7970 features a PLL-synthesized AM/FM tuner with 30 station presets. Switchable USA/Europe/Asia radio frequencies allow effective use in different countries, and the RDS (Radio Data System) feature for displaying station, song or show info.

Output Options
With 80W through four channels, the BV7970 boasts plenty of power right out of the box. But it also features dual (front and rear) RCA outputs and a Subwoofer output, along with an internal amplifier on/off control to avoid noise while using external amplifiers.

Dual Zone Operation
The BV7970 is equipped with a "Dual A/V Zone" feature. This allows the user to select different outputs for different sources simultaneously. For example, users can listen to music in the front speakers from the tuner or iPod while sending DVD audio to the back speakers. Ditto on video--if you have multiple TFT screens installed (via the BV7970's AV output) you can have two separate video sources. Video games in front, DVD in back, etc.

Dial in Your Sound
Choose from preset EQ response curves, use separate bass and treble or balance and fader controls, change the Subwoofer low pass filter control and more to get the sound you like. The BV7970 even features a stereo/mono switch and a mute function.

DVD player went out in about 6 months, and it was rarely used. It also had trouble reading some DVDs. Radio and other functions still work. Would not buy again.

It's ok for the price i paid 150 but seems like cheaper stereo, buttons looks cheap, screen have just 2 color when you play something that's not dvd and you could not change images.

The description says that play ipod videos with the cable, and appear on the display the name of the song, the only thing that appears is a blue screen with sound.

Positives
sounds good.
good dvd quality.

1.0 out of 5 stars Updated: Unacceptable - seems like a beta test unit., December 9, 2008

This review is from: Boss Audio BV7970 In-Dash 3.6-Inch Widescreen Monitor with AM/FM DVD/MP3/CD Receiver (Electronics)
Just installed this unit a week or so ago, working fine, good power for the price (about $150). I would not pay any more than 150 for this unit, the MSRP price is a joke.

UPDATE: I would not install one of these again even if it were free with and I was paid $100 to take it.

Positives:
Power

Display quality is good when playing a DVD.

Price (when heavily discounted) UPDATE: Any price is too high.

Negatives:

Weakest FM tuning of any receiver I've owned.

I don't really have any use for playing DVD movies in my truck thus the "cool color screen" is virtually worthless (see next point).

Display screen when not playing a DVD is ugly block font blue and white cheap looking display. There is no option to play any video clip or other graphic display when listening to radio, cd, aux in, etc. This is a really basic function of most receivers with a display screen but not this unit!

Buttons sound and feel cheap when you press them.

Flip down face is noisy, sounds like it may have a short life.

When you get to the end of a CD, it just stops. You can't use the track buttons to go forward to track 1 or backward through the tracks. If you want to listen to the CD again, you have to cycle through the source inputs back to CD.

UPDATE: Finally uninstall ed this piece of junk. I would never buy any Boss product again. CD started skipping really bad. This was just an all-around low quality rip-off. It should be illegal for a product like this to be sold.

Also - When replacing removable faceplate, starting having problems getting it to engage.
