This review is from: Boss BV9560B 7-Inch DVD/MP3/CD Widescreen Bluetooth Receiver with USB and SD Card (Electronics)
Great deal from Amazon. (270 USD) with Amazon prime shipping. A lot cheaper compared with the other expensive ones in this tough economy.

Pros:
-----
This one is a new version, March 2009 release.

1. In-Built Bluetooth works fine and plays music directly from Iphone without having to connect any wires to it. No hissing nor static noise in the back ground. Audio from Bluetooth is crystal clear.
2. Rear view camera(bought a 40 USD camera from Amazon and hooked it up by myself), DVD player, FM(16 presets), all works as advertised.
3. Cheaper (270 USD) when compared to Pioneer AVH-P3100DVD with Blue tooth which comes to atleast 420 USD.(with the steering wheel interface)
4. I got Pioneer AVH-P3100DVD (just for comparison) and this unit and tried both of them in my Honda Pilot to check how it works and did not see any difference in quality.
5. Bought a soldering Iron(15 USD) and soldered all the wires by myself. (saved 60 USD in installation charges).Instruction manual provided is more than sufficient to do it.
6. Prompt customer support via email when you register in their website.

I hope the quality of this product lasts for a long time.

Minor tweaks
------------
1. Connected the Dimmer to the parking brake to make the DVD play in the front panel as well.
2. Had to connect the rear view camera trigger wire to the back up light system.
3. Need to connect the rear view camera video output to the CAM input.

Cons:
-----
1. 4 star rating because it does not have a steering wheel control Interface but to compensate for it they provide a wireless remote control.
2. Does not support SDHC or USB memory stick more than 2 GB.

5.0 out of 5 stars 2nd time is a charm, June 21, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Boss BV9560B 7-Inch DVD/MP3/CD Widescreen Bluetooth Receiver with USB and SD Card (Electronics)
BOTTOM LINE: If you have the money to buy one of the name brand $600 DVD/Bluetooth units, then buy one of those because their interface screen graphics are much nicer. If that's not an issue for you, or if spending over $600 for a head unit is, then consider this head unit.

This is my second review as the first unit came to me and turned on but did not play sound. Tech support was impossible to get ahold of the first time around. Props to Amazon for extremely speedy delivery of both the first and second replacement unit. Now, after receiving the replacement unit and installing it, the same problem occurred and it would not play sound. So I called tech support and surprisingly got right through this time. However the tech did not help and offered little support other than maybe there is a short in your vehicle or a blown fuse. After another hour of troubleshooting it myself I decided to swap the first unit's wiring harness with the new wiring harness. Problem solved! Turns out the issue with the first unit was a short somewhere in the wiring connector, which also affected the second unit because I originally left the first harness connected. Problem fixed by dumb luck and hours of frustration trying everything, not by tech support. For the speedy delivery of first & replacement unit, Amazon gets 5 stars. For lack of any help, Tech support gets 0/5 stars.

Contrary to what other reviews have said the unit DOES have a night time dimming function. Press and hold Mute button and the screen goes black. Perfect for night driving. When you want it back on to change a song or whatever, just simply tap the screen anywhere and it turns right back on. Furthermore the screen has contrast, color, brightness settings. You can turn the brightness almost completely off if you want to in about 2 seconds. tap screen, brings up display icons, tap Tools icon, tap Video icon, hold down Brightness adjustment. Simple.

Most everything can be done by remote, so if youre worried about safety of driving while changing songs, learn how to use the remote. Easy fix.

Interface graphics are cheesy like a 90s DOS program. Either get over it (I did considering this unit does everything it claims to, SD, USB, Auxilary, DVD/R, MP3, MP4, VCD, Bluetooth for hands free cell phone) or turn off the screen by holding the Mute button and use the remote or turn the screen back on to change songs or whatever and then shut it off.

Loading times are as advertised in other reviews, about 4-6 seconds for a video DVD, less for a CD. Switching sources take 2-4 seconds. Does seem like forever waiting 6 seconds for the DVD to load, but once it does load it skips scenes and/or tracks quickly.

The sound quality beats my old Aiwa top-of-line CD player (10 years ago), and rivals my previous Alpine & Kenwood head units. Also beats a previous Pioneer head unit I had for a few weeks in sound quality hands down, which is why I got rid of that one. I was skeptical buying a Boss brand head unit specifically because of sound quality, but I'm glad I bought it. Forget what some of the others have said, this thing beats any comparable <$200 CD or DVD head unit on the market. Yes even a $200 Sony or JVC.

I have two 6.5" Lanzar MAXP64 subwoofers (not co-axial speakers) in my doors powered by this unit, and two Pioneer 4x6" co-axials in the stock rear pillars with Stinger SGJ91 300Hz bass blockers also powered by this unit and it sounds fantastic. Not breaking any records at the DB Drags, but the head unit puts out enough power for the MAXP64's to shake the mirrors, and with the bass blockers on the co-axials it does it VERY clearly. Very satisfied with the power and clarity with this head unit. I had originally planned to put an amp on the subs and add another pair of co-axials to be powered by the head unit, but I don't need to now because it already sounds great, any more power would be overkill for what I want my radio to do.

Other problems some of the 1* reviews have mentioned are, after experiencing my own problem, possibly caused by an easily replaceable faulty wiring harness. Like not working and having to turn the car on and off, sounds like it could be a similar harness issue like mine had. Then again, it could be a quality of build issue, I don't know for sure, but I'm skeptical after finding a problem first hand with the harness.

This unit is deeper than standard oem double-din radios, meaning stock radios, however this is common of most aftermarket double-din units. In my Silverado I had to remove part of a plastic bracket in the dash before it would fit. 2 minutes with a dremmel and problem solved. If you have a true double-din opening, this unit will fit, but MIGHT require some DIY ingenuity.

Another reviewer said "Nothing works... CDs wont load..." there are two screws on top and two tags attached that CLEARLY state that this unit won't work until these "transit" screws are removed. Fairly straight forward issue, simply use a phillips screw driver and turn the screws to the left until they aren't attached to the unit anymore. "trim ring get in the way (of) the folding down screen" although the trim ring is a tight fit, it fits mine perfectly and is a non-issue. I think he/she put it on upside down, hence it isn't locked into the unit correctly and gets in the way. Like I said, for me this is not an issue as mine fits perfectly.

As far as the "DVD wont show picture" issues people have had... the pink wire needs to be connected to the parking brake, which allows the unit to only be used in park and not while driving. Extremely easy to by-pass. The parking brake wire, when activated by the parking brake, is essentially just a ground wire. Get a little bit creative and do the math. In order to work all the time, a certain wire needs to be grounded... figure it out. Simple.

All in all the bottom line is this: If you have the money to buy one of the name brand $600 DVD/Bluetooth units, then buy one of those because their interface screen graphics are much nicer. If that's not an issue for you, or if spending $600+ is, then consider this head unit. Great sound quality, good power to speakers from head unit, bluetooth hands-free calling, DVD picture quality is good, lots of reasons to buy this unit. Glad I did.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for the Price, December 8, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Boss BV9560B 7-Inch DVD/MP3/CD Widescreen Bluetooth Receiver with USB and SD Card (Electronics)
Great unit for the price. It does everything it says. Surprisingly, the bluetooth works better than some more popular brands. The interface is extremely cheesy. I seriously laughed when I first saw it. Also the loading time seems a bit slow whether it is a cd or dvd. The sound quality is better than expected. My old system was alpine type-r with 3 v12 amps (i know good sound). The only reason I gave this product 4 stars is because you really cannot beat the price. The rear view camera works flawlessly, sounds great, and has a great picture. There are some small features that are annoying example... when a call comes in though bluetooth when you end the call the track on the sd card starts from the beginning again. It is rather annoying, but overall I am pleased with my purchase.

3.0 out of 5 stars You Get What you Pay For, September 15, 2010

This review is from: Boss BV9560B 7-Inch DVD/MP3/CD Widescreen Bluetooth Receiver with USB and SD Card (Electronics)
I looked for quite a while to find a reasonable priced double din chassis radio replacement for my work van. This unit had the most features for the cheapest price. It has performed fair. The interface is a little cheesy and it is slow to respond. I would like to reserve the deepest depths of hell for whoever put the auto re-memerize your radio station buttons on the main radio screen. A useless feature that is by no means created by or exclusive to Boss. Anyway, other than that the unit performs fair. It's slow to switch from usb to radio, or to bluetooth. Considering the price of around $200 it's OK, just OK. In retrospect I wish I had spend around $500 and installed a unit with a better interface and a little smoother operation.

I did have some wiring harness issues however the tech support at Boss was excellent. If you have a problem with the unit don't hesitate to call support. Check the depth on your dash first, this unit requires extra room if your using the RCA connections on the back for audio video out or camera video in.

In all, don't think your getting a $500+ unit for cheap. It's worth about $200. If you have reasonable expectations this unit will meet them.

4.0 out of 5 stars Weary to Buy do to all the bad reviews- But change of heart :), June 1, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Boss BV9560B 7-Inch DVD/MP3/CD Widescreen Bluetooth Receiver with USB and SD Card (Electronics)
I was weary to but this item because of all the bad reviews. Boss is not a huge known brand that I have heard of before- I guess I will start off the the good then the bad;

Good:
1. The thing works like intended

2. It doesn't skip movies while driving if you set it up correctly(A lot of people complained of high loading time, this is because the stereos like these Memorize the movie ahead of time in the player so that you don't have skips and scratches on your DVD... When At a stop, or not having taken off yet, it takes about 15 seconds to load the DVD Max, When driving It has to be a super smooth surface or it wont load because it can't get the frames memorized with bumpy roads. All and all you can pull over for 1 minute to load a dvd that's not an issue to me at least. Also as far as the DVD stuff goes, When set up properly, We were able to recieve a call, on blue tooth and listen to music then go back to the same spot where the movie left off resuming the movie. The only time it restarted over was when we had to turn the car off. Once power is going to the system, it will remember where you even from ACC to On.

3. Bluetooth plays both Phone calls, music and internet over the stereo, We can listen to Slacker while driving and keep out own play lists instead of having to bring tons of CS's with us while having our phone on the charger :) you can also have more then 1 phone synced to the device and change who is synced easily with a single button which is nice when me and my husband are switching who is taking the car.

4. It has tons of ways to change the Look and sound, and it is surround sound for DVD.

5. The Head to tilt if needed in any mode so you don't have to mount it slanted or weird just mount it normal.

now the Bad:

1. GPS ability, Has the software but no filmware- So you cannot hook a GPS system to it yet. Boss is still working on that, But you can hook your own GPS system up to the AUX if you really wanna hear it over the stereo.

Thats It :)

This is a $599 stereo for $200 bucks, You get what you paid for, Its a nice DVD/CD/Radio/Bluetooth with tilt screen, with option to have GPS in the future You cant expect a Kenwood out of a Boss so please don't try to. Accept the Radio for what it is and you will love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Stereo -- Dont Listen to bad reviewers !!!!!!, June 11, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Boss BV9560B 7-Inch DVD/MP3/CD Widescreen Bluetooth Receiver with USB and SD Card (Electronics)
I bought this Dvd Player for my 2003 Trailblazer..
Let me just say this Stereo is amazing, it really is. There are so many options. The description doesnt even list them all. It plays dvds,wma,mp4,mp3's and alot more types of files with ease. It lets you play ur ipod and make and receive calls hands free through your speakers.I also hooked up a back up camera with ease. Also it was super easy to make the dvd player work while driving -- (just ground the e-brake wire to the car)--- Crazy cool
I got it yesterday and put it in today. I know that looking into in-dash receivers can be alittle confusing. But let me tell you this is worth every penny. I have had no problems with it and the picture quality is awesome. It does every thing the expensive ones do for a fraction the price.
There are a few things i should say. As far as the install -- It didnt fit in my trailblazer like amazon said it would. I had to custom cut my dash with my dremmel to get it to fit. Actually the 2-din mounting bracket didnt fit around it either i had to trim some off the inside of that as well. But once that was done --- it went in easy and looks great. It looks like it was made that way from the factory
Also you will more then likely have to trim some off the shelf in the dash that the stereo sit on to get it to fit because it is longer then a standard stock stereo.
Im going to post a how to video on this so people can see how to do it step by step-- because i know how confusing the whole install can be with the wire harnesses and instructions that are confusing and every one's different opinions. And really its alot easier then it seems to do
Heres some basics if you get this-- You WILL NEED TO ALSO GET an Antenna adapter / a wire harness kit / and a mounting kit for sure ..
I will update this review soon with more details and the video but go ahead and get this because you will not be disappointed trust me its great i love it -- if anyone needs help or questions you can email me at pavlok25 at gmail dot com my name is Paul and i will be more then happy to help you out -- someone helped me and it was so much easier

I like the radio, I installed it myself, pretty easy job... The reason I give it 4 stars is because of software it uses. It makes the radio look cheap and low quality.. it is way too basic. The graphics look as an old nintendo or a cheap china made dvd player. It should have a better interphase with better graphics and icons. It has a lot of extras such as pict viewer, screen tilt, and even an equalizer, surround presets and a real time graphic showing the way your music moves, however you cannot save your customized preset and you have to choose it each time you turn off the radio. It lacks a screensaver option, when listening to a CD or MP# music you see an ugly boss wallpaper. it is a shame because the sound and image is great. I have a back up camera that turns on when you select reverse and it looks great... I do recommend it however so do not expect to get impressed by the software. i will put some picts later so you can see what I mean.

Regards

1.0 out of 5 stars Real Cheap..., November 20, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Boss BV9560B 7-Inch DVD/MP3/CD Widescreen Bluetooth Receiver with USB and SD Card (Electronics)
Got this Radio yesterday 11/19/2010 and installed it right away. Wiring was straight forward and really easy. Getting the unit Installed in the dashboard was a major p.i.a. It seems to be just a little bit bigger than a standard double DIN Radio so i had to modify the Double DIN Adapter that i bought for my car so the radio would fit through. But this is not the bad part yet. Once connected to 12V and up and running it turns out immediatelly why the radio was only $200.

Graphics look horrible (really really horrible) there's no dimmer function for driving at nights, trying to do settings on the display is almost impossible because you cannot see the gauges (No contrast at all impossible to change real quick while driving) skipping a track while the CD is playing requires your full attention to the radio for a couple of seconds and overall there are no settings you can change to customize the radio a little and last bot not least loading time of the CD Player takes a couple of seconds(feels like forever). Due to the limited settings sound quality is pretty poor too.

Well i guess even though the radio was only $200 i expected a little more than this. I will change it out through a Kenwood or Clarion Head Unit and rip this thing out again. I really do not see how they can sell a head unit like this i think it should be illegal to have anything like this installed in a car nowadays.

it failed in the three major disciplines
- Sound
- looks
- Safety (Takes way to much attention away from the street)

One star for the bluetooth connectivity.

There were many negative reviews around so I thought I would add my opinion. This is a great unit for the value conscious. It does everything that you could ask it to and does so well. For all those complaining of no dimmer function there is a way to dim the unit. Also installation was simple with a 20 minute soldering job that anyone could do. The sound is good, but seems to be a little muted when watching movies as well as music when played over bluetooth. The unit does have a basic UI but that is not a problem to me since the more important thing is to be watching traffic. All in all a great product for a great price.
