Editorial Reviews

Review

"By the Light of the Silvery Moon  is officially my favorite Tricia Goyer novel. The story is filled with characters who will steal your heart. Take this voyage on the Titanic. You'll be glad you did!"
-Robin Lee Hatcher, bestselling author of Belonging and Heart of Gold

"By the Light of the Silvery Moon has everything I adore about Tricia Goyer's writing - emotion that pulls me in, a plot that keeps me turning pages, and characters that won't let go of my heart. Even now."

-Tamera Alexander, bestselling author of A Lasting Impression and Within My Heart

"Be still my heart! A shipboard romance, a prodigal son, Tricia Goyer's rich historical research, and all the Titanic's lushness and impending doom - By the Light of the Silvery Moon is everything a historical romance novel should be."

-Sarah Sundin, award-winning author of the Wings of Glory series

As the one hundredth anniversary of Titanic's demise draws near, works of fiction are popping up, and this one is the first I've read. Although we know the tragic end of this story, Goyer weaves a tale of redemption for us to enjoy. The love found on Titanic is not just romantic love, but brotherly as well. It is endearing, historical, and exciting all wrapped up in one. I particularly treasured the spin- taking the parable of the prodigal son and mixing it with themes from the movie, Titanic, from fifteen years ago. It was delightful to see the parallels! From the crossing over in classes, jewelry in a pocket, to a father who throws a banquet for his lost son- it was all sweetly done, with an emotional depth that I did, indeed, experience. If you want a faith honoring Titanic story, this is the book to choose!
(Amy Russell 20120109)

Though the infamous Titanic is this novel's setting, readers will become so enraptured by Amelia and Quentin's love story that they may temporarily forget the ship's historical fate.

This is a well-crafted title, rounded out by intriguing subplots and a beautiful Christian message of forgiveness.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best I've read by Goyer! April 10, 2012
Format:Paperback
I've read several of Tricia Goyer's books over the past year, but By the Light of the Silvery Moon was one of her best yet! Her writing style is quick, sharp, and engaging, dragging you right into the story alongside Amelia, Quentin, and Damien as they experience the Titanic in all its glory...and tragedy.

Amelia is a very sweet girl, and while we meet her as she's boarding the Titanic, bound for a new life, it isn't long until I felt as if I've known her for ages. Her sweet personality and caring, selfless heart instantly makes her stand out to me--especially as her first scene show her giving a man down on his luck a second chance. Inspiring!

The romance within By the Light of the Silvery Moon was really fast. And I mean fast! I generally like to see a slow development of feelings, whereas with this book things begin quickly with those "first looks" and within a few days romance is heating up on the dance floor! But, to my surprise and delight, Goyer did an amazing job at portraying Amelia, Damien, and Quentin's romances in a very realistic and believable light.

As I read and enjoyed in Amelia's adventures aboard the Titanic, I approached--with much dread--that one fateful morning that witnessed the death of so many people. My heart rejoiced at the many acts of heroism and selflessness...and it bled when Amelia was unable to convince the people in the lifeboats to try to pick up survivors. By the Light of the Silvery Moon is a very memorable read that is sure to entertain the reader to the fullest...and cause a few tears to be shed in the meantime!

I reviewed this book for Barbour Books via Litfuse. It was not required that I give a positive review, but solely to express my own thoughts and opinions of this book, which I have done.

5.0 out of 5 stars Celebrating the Titanic in a beautiful way! March 18, 2012
Format:Paperback
What an absolutely PERFECT way to celebrate the upcoming 100th anniversary of the Titanic sinking. While it was such a tragedy that happened, books like this are wonderful! Tricia Goyer is already one of my many favorite Christian Fiction authors, and this book is a wonderful addition to her historical novels!

By The Light Of The Silvery Moon....I just LOVE that title. But, I loved the story even more! Sweet Amelia Gladstone has a heart of gold, and when her cousin, Henry, is unable to travel aboard the Titanic because he was in jail, she puts his ticket to good use. She sees a man that is escorted off the Titanic before it sets sail, and has a bit of sympathy for him, so she hands over the ticket.

Quentin Walpole is a beggar and lives on the streets. He's surprised to find that the beautiful lady has a heart of gold for him. Quickly dubbing her his Angel of Mercy, he takes the ticket and masquerades around the Titanic as Henry Gladstone. But, he harbors a secret.....and he doesn't want to be found out. Especially by two very popular men.

Charles and Damian Walpole are aboard the Titanic setting sail back to America. Charles is on the look out for his youngest son Quentin, and Damian blames that young son on the death of their mother. He is trying to get his father to understand and not let him know that he's been paying people to NOT give him the information. Then Damian and Charles encounter the beautiful Miss Abigail. She knows of Quentin, but just how much? And why can't Damian seem to get the lower class woman out of his mind?

Amelia meets Damian, but her thoughts keep turning to Quentin, the handsome stranger she gave her cousin's ticket to. Will she be able to have a happy ever after based on love, and not on letters from the gentleman in America?

Tricia Goyer is one of my favorite novelists, and this book delighted me. Goyer's storytelling and research shine, and the characters are truly engaging. Most importantly, this story truly touched and moved me. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful historical romance February 28, 2012
Format:Paperback
I received this e-book from Barbour Publishing, Inc through NetGalley.com for no charge in exchange for my honest review of this e-book.

Book Description:

Destiny Brought Them Together. Will Tragedy Draw Them Apart?

Amelia Gladstone's mind is filled with promise as she gazes at the marvelous new ship, ready for its maiden voyage. The Titanic holds the promise of a reunited family. . .and of possible love waiting on American shores. Nothing could mar Amelia's joy, until she sees a ragged stowaway being escorted down the gangplank.

Down-and-out after squandering his fortune, Quentin Walpole thought his voyage to America ended on the Southampton pier. Then a sweet lady--his angel of mercy named Amelia--secured his passage with a spare ticket. Now he's headed to America, eager for a second chance.

But once the voyage begins, the past confronts Quentin when he discovers that his wealthy railroad tycoon father and older brother Damien are also on board. As Amelia tries to bring about reconciliation between father and son, she suddenly finds herself the center of both brothers' attention with a choice to make: Who can she trust with her heart?

Then the fateful night arrives, and one brother faces a greater choice.

Will Amelia's fate ultimately be one of love or loss?

My Thoughts:

By the Light of the Silvery Moon is one of many books by Tricia Goyer I have had the honor of reading. This story did NOT disappoint. This story is a historical fiction about the Titanic tragedy. The story starts in Southampton where the ship first sets sail.
