4.0 out of 5 stars France's Pop Queen Comes Of Age
Discovered this album while in Paris for the '87 French Open tennis championships. Instantly fell in love with the title track and quickly developed a keen liking for the rest of the album. Discovered this album while in Paris for the '87 French Open tennis championships. Instantly fell in love with the title track and quickly developed a keen liking for the rest of the album. Gall was a bubbly pop sensation in France in the '60's and '70's, so her longevity itself is impressive. This album, produced with her husband, Michel Berger, takes her music "of age" and gives up on her "happy" sound for a much more adult-focused musical product. Hear the ache in her voice on "Ella, Elle L'a", and let your imagination take you to late night along the Seine with "C'est Bon Que Tu Sois La". Even if you can't understand a word of French--like me--you'll enjoy Gall's unique voice and Berger's fine arrangements.

For FRANCE GALL and her fans, that album will remain special, because it was to be the last with her husband that was entirely conceived for her(the 1992 songs were duets). It is also linked with their trips to SENEGAL(BABACAR was a child they supported)and also very personnal(EVIDEMMENT was written in the memory of DANIEL BELAVOINE who was their best friend)FRANCE has always admired ELLA FITZGERALD, and the song ELLA is her tribute. The record was her biggest seller ever in EUROPE and almost all the songs were hits.

Poppy and emotional, yet mature enough to convince. Maybe the song Babacar itself is melodramatic, but the singing on this album is so clear and charming I just have to like it.

This purchase was to replace a missing album lost in a move. It is that good, probably her best in my opinion. Her voice and range as well as her subject matter bring her music alive.

Reminds me of driving with a friend in Germany on the autobahn. Great traveling music. Upbeat, catchy, even if you can't sing in French!
