I never know what to expect from Lisa Cach. From Mermaid of Penperro through George and the Dragon, to Dream of Me, it can go from historic, to travel fantasy, to erotic succubus. Some I liked, some I didn't, but all have been original, all have brought out some degree of enjoyment or annoyance. This one, however... I don't know, Blah?
A spooky haunted house owned by a studly man, he needs a medium to help him rid himself of the ghosts. Naturally he finds a pretty medium, and the usual formula book for today's 20-30 somethings ensues. Raging hormones, lusty thoughts (the hero sees the heroine as dessert, the heroine ogles the hero as sumptuous eye candy), two minutes after meeting one another, they are both thinking condoms and the fastest route to the nearest bed, oral sex being, naturally, the prerequisite if a handy condom is not available. True love blossoms (how could such a promising start fail?). Because I am not of the 20-30 something generation, I find it all just a little tawdry, shallow, and a bit of a yawn. So, Lisa Cach has now officially joined the MaryJanice Davidson, Katie MacAlister, Amanda Ashley, Lyndsay Sands, Lori Foster, etc. club. All very successful authors, all bestsellers, all pretty much interchangable. Read it, forget it, go on to the next "romance", it should be listed on the top of the NYT bestseller list or the bargain bin of your nearest used book store.

Kind of dry, just so-so,
This review is from: A Babe in Ghostland (Mass Market Paperback)
I've never read a Lisa Cach book that I wanted to re-read or keep. Some are just ok, and some are just skimmers that go straight to the used book store. This book is no exception thus far.
Although most of Lisa Cach's books have very engaging plots, her characters are kind of 1 dimensional. In this book, Case, a carpenter who buys fixer-uppers and resells them, finds the house of dreams that he wants to keep for himself. The only problem is that it's haunted by ghosts that are always molesting him at night in his bed or doing odd things around the house. Meagan, an antique store owner and retired ghost hunter; is offered the job of getting rid of the ghosts since she is known to have the 6th sense in speaking/seeing ghosts. The story started out well, but the scenes got repetitive, and the main characters weren't very engaging. The ghosts were the most engaging of the characters, except their personalities or justifications for their actions were never truly explained. Why would a living person trap a ghost to a house? How did the owners know to trap a ghost if the ghost had died way before the owners? The conclusion never resolved all the questions I had in the book and was an extremely contrived no explanation happy ending. Perhaps the story would have been better for me if the books was steamier, but frankly, the hero getting molested by ghosts or possesed people were a little hotter. I think this is the last book of Lisa Cach I will buy new. In the future, I will only buy from used book stores. This one is definitely getting dropped of there too. Of the Lisa Cach books, the only one that I truly liked was "Dream on Me".

Charming,

This book was a light-hearted read that was entertaining but not excellent. It was a surface read good for weekends and lunchbreaks. I recommend for anyone who just wants a fluffy story to lighten your mood.

A heart stopping paranormal romantic thriller,

This review is from: A Babe in Ghostland (Mass Market Paperback)
Megan Barrow's had once used her psychic abilities as a ghost-buster for the SPIRIT organization. But that was before she'd had a close encounter of the demonic kind. Nowadays she contents herself with using her abilities to acquire memorabilia with happy memories for her antique shop, Antique Fancies.
Enter Case Lambert, Seattle realtor who specializes in turning houses over for profit. He's been having close encounters of his own. Case had purchased the run down Smithson mansion which he is turning over for his own use. He had grown up in dire straits with a carpenter father who had devoted all his time to fixing other people's homes while their own fell down around their ears and a mother who had used what little money they had pursuing psychics who had all turned out to be quacks. For that reason he is determined to have his home in mint condition before he brings a wife and family into it. Unfortunately his dream house appears to be haunted. He hires SPIRIT psychologist Eric Ramsey with the hope that Eric will find a logical explanation for the phenomenon he is experiencing. Eric in turn had insisted that Megan be a part of the investigation. Although Case sets her heart aflutter, Megan insists that she is through with ghost-busting. The mention of Eric's name makes her even more determined to refuse the offer as he had been responsible for her last terrifying experience. Nevertheless she soon finds herself ensconced in Case's house, Eric, ghosts and all. Yes, ghosts plural. Although one appears to have amorous feelings for Case, it soon becomes apparent that something truly terrible had occurred there and one spirit will stop at nothing to keep the living from ridding the house of its ghostly inhabitants. Megan soon realizes that the time has come to stop playing it safe, to risk it all including her heart. Not even the dead can keep Megan and Case from falling in love. A BABE IN GHOSTLAND is a heart stopping paranormal romantic thriller that will have the reader believing in ghosts -- and true love. A highly recommended read. A Babe in Ghostland,
This review is from: A Babe in Ghostland (Mass Market Paperback)
Megan Barrows can see ghosts. She has stopped seeking them out after a bad experience and now focuses on using her sixth sense to find antiques for her antique store.
Case Lambert approaches Megan in her store under the guise of a man seeking an appraisal. Case doesn't believe in ghosts or psychics, but something strange is happening in the mansion he just bought and his friend, Eric, insisted that Megan could help. Megan knows Eric too and she is furious over what happened the last time she worked with him, but the growing mystery surrounding Case's house has her reluctantly helping him anyway. There are ghosts in Case's house all right, angry, dangerous ones. If Megan can't get to the bottom of why they are there and what they want, they may not make it out alive. A Babe In Ghostland is a sometimes funny, sometimes creepy story that kept me intrigued. Megan and Case have an experience that was bound to keep them close; they are a good match. The discovery of why the ghosts existed was pretty clever, making A Babe In Ghostland an entertaining story. Nannette reviewed for Joyfully Reviewed

I was not impressed with either the cover or the title of this book. However, the back cover was more informative. I found it to be a warm and interesting read. The author's recent novels were paranormals that depended alot on supernatural mythology and this is a contemporary ghost story.
Megan Berrows is not longer pursueing a career as a psychic because of a bad experience while working with Eric Ramsey. Eric is an electronic ghostbuster who works with a lot of high tech instruments. He knows that Megan is for real and sends Case Lambert to her antique shop to try and get her help. Megan has always been able to sense things about the materials she touches. Case is a real estate developer who has bought an old house he is starting to rebuild. Unfortunately for him there is something going on in the old place. Case is a definite skeptic and only after he has personally experienced a frightening incident does he begin to search for someone to help him find out what is going on. And if possible remove the disturbing elements in the house. Case and Megan make a deal, if she finds and proves there are spirits causing his problems he will give her 20 pieces of the choice furniture in the house. If Eric can prove a normal reason for the problems she agrees to restore all of the furniture in the house. After One visit Megan knows she can't loose. She agrees to move into the house with Case and Eric until a conclusion is reached. From that point on the read is wonderful, a great ghost story, a warm romance and never a dull moment. This is a fast paced story and I enjoyed it.

Excellent!,

My first and only other read by Lisa Cach was "Have Glass Slippers, Will Travel" and it was good enough that the author and the title stuck in my mind, so I looked forward to this book release. I thought it was excellent! I had to force myself to put it down to get some sleep last night.
I think the cover and title are a little misleading as it is not quite as fluffy as it sounds and I found it to be a page-turner. If I had to say anything negative it would be that I wish it were longer, more elaborate. It is an great read and the concept of this particular medium could definitely have been made into a trilogy of some sort. Enjoy!

fun paranormal romance,
This review is from: A Babe in Ghostland (Mass Market Paperback)
In Seattle, Washington, Case Lambert stops at Megan Barrows' store Antique Fancies giving the owner palpitations of the heart. A realtor who restores old houses before selling them, he does not want to buy any of her items that only contain happy memories except her services to rid his new purchase of an apparent ghost; though first he tests her with his family heirloom, a watch owned by his doting grandmother. Megan, having almost lost her soul during her ghostbusting days, passes the test easily but refuses to intervene especially when he mentions parapsychologist Eric Ramsay recommended her. Megan's best friend Tracie Thomas accepts the job for her at an exorbitant fee, dinner with his cute butt.
He already lives in the mansion though it is not renovated and has two reasons for wanting her to stay there with him. First he is very attracted to her and second though a skeptic he is taking no chances that ghosts share his home. She quickly concludes he has several ghosts residing there including a ghost who has the hots for the hunk almost as much as Megan wants him. Of course the Smithson sister spirits have other plans with Eric as their milieu, but no one can prevent Megan and Case from falling in love. A BABE IN GHOSTLAND is a fun paranormal romance starring a likable lead duet who fall in instant lust even before the first ghost appears. The story line is fast-paced as Megan's rival is from the beyond. Though the tale is somewhat to romantic fantasy form, sub-genre readers will enjoy Lisa Cach's fascinating tale of ghosts trying to prevent a mortal romance. Harriet Klausner

This book was so horribly written, I wonder if an editor saw it at all! What was the author thinking? Really silly interplay between the characters, and I don't mean that in a good way. By the end of the book, I didn't care about either the hero or heroine. Skip this story.
