Although certainly not ignored, his beginnings in major league baseball -- five plus seasons with the Boston Red Sox -- tend to be somewhat glossed over. The extent of Ruth's accomplishments on the field with Boston, as well as his enormous popularity of that period, have never been fully appreciated. In addition, there are dozens of interesting incidents and anecdotes still left to be told.

The extent of the legendary Babe Ruth's accomplishments on the field with the Boston Red Sox has never been fully appreciated. In those glory years of 1915 through 1918, Ruth topped his circuit many times. In 1916 he led the league in ERA, shutouts, games started, and fewest hits per nine innings. In 1917 he led in complete games, finishing second in the American League in wins. By the 1918 season, his league leads were coming in other categories such as home runs and slugging percentage. Yet, he remained a formidable enough force on the mound as his performance (a six-hit shutout in the 1918 World Series would indicate). This would turn out to be Ruth's last World Series performance with the Boston Red Sox. It would also be the last time a Red Sox starting left-handed pitcher would win a World Series game for 24,876 days, until Bruce Hurst shut out the New York Mets 1-0 in Game 1 of the 1986 World Series. All in all, relatively few seem to realize the magnitude of his pitching prowess in his three years as a full-time pitcher, as he was much in the same class as Grover Cleveland Alexander and Walter Johnson. As a left-hander, he took a back seat to no one. There have been numerous publications that give us Ruth the "Yankee." Having read most of what has been offered this particular book shed's light on the George Ruth few have ever had an opportunity to realize. From his day's in a boys home to his assent into the "Bigs." As well as his community service with children to the obligation that he felt to keep the local pubs in business. Ruth set the stage for athletes to give back and be yourself in the process. You'll also discover the truth behind "The Curse of The Bambino." This is truly an "In Depth Chronicle" of his start in the majors. A Great Read!!!!!!!!!!!

The Forgotten Career of Babe Ruth,

Well he didn't spend much time here, but for the short time that he was here, he was the most feared two-way player in all of baseball.I mean he pitched well and he hit well, with being the best pitcher in all of baseball and setting the Major League record of 29 home runs in 1919, the last year with the Red Sox. I'm sure that everyone knows that Ruth was probably the greatest hitter with the Yankees, but people always tend to forget the great career that he had with the Boston Red Sox. I hope that many people read this book and see how truly good he was, not only as a great hitter, but how amazing of a pitcher he was.

This author team brings a wealth of experience in historical and sports research to the fore in this work. Red Sox fans, perhaps, remember the story of Babe Ruth's early days in Boston, but to the average youngster being initiated into the ranks of baseball fans across the country, the Bambino is introduced as a Yankee.
Perhaps the most important facet of this book's contribution to the Ruth saga is its head-on attack of unsubstantiated legends that have lingered into the twenty-first century. Did he really throw his piano into Wills Pond? Was he sold to the Yankees to fund a musical? Unwilling to settle for cicumstantial evidence and hearsay, the authors push for answers.
