At last! I have been looking for a book like this one for ages. This little gem is the best so far on the subject of knitted dolls. While most publications offer drab and unattractive patterns to knit the same old dolls again and again, this book takes the knitted doll subject to a whole new level.

Fiona MacDonald's babes truly are fashionistas! You can choose from 3 types of dolls to knit with 9 different examples offered in the book. Each one with her own contemporary and fun wardrobe which you can mix and match as you please.

As long as you can knit, purl, increase and decrease, you will be able to knit as many dolls as you like with accompanying garments such as bikinis, skirts, tops, sweaters, scarves, pants, slippers and ballet shoes, coats, hats and handbags. 5 stars all the way!

What set the dolls created by Fiona MacDonald's apart, in my opinion, is the face. Fiona explains early on in the book how to create realistic and precise facial features for each doll using felt and acrylic paint. She also offers a short section on hair and also on face and body needlesculpting. That extra touch is what gives the dolls their unique attractive look. That plus their long legs.

I love the clothes of the dolls so much I'd like to make them for me to wear, seriously.

Buy this book, get knitting and let your creativity flow, you will have some fun and will be able to create superb dolls that will be loved both by young fashionistas in the making and their mum too!

This is a really great book. I just learned to knit this year and have already created a really cute doll using the instructions in this book. The clothes are amazing and all of them will fit any of the three doll types instructions are given. This would be a great gift for someone who knits and enjoys dolls. A gift for someone else or for yourself.

The designs for dolls and their clothes are quite fun. The instructions are clear. There's a new idea for making features on the dolls' faces, and interesting ideas about doll hair. Finally, the dolls have interchangeable clothes. What's not to like?

The dolls in this book are beautiful - I've made three - but it is clear that the author is not familiar with writing knitting patterns. The only guidelines she gives for yarn type and gauge are for the dolls themselves. To knit any of the clothes, it is a big guessing game, with the advice given that if the clothes don't fit, re-knit them using more or less stitches. Gauge guidelines and/or finished measurements for the clothes would be a huge improvement.

When I saw this book I thought it was hilarious, cool, fun, etc. I totally had to purchase this. I love knitting dolls, toys, dog sweaters...anything fun and quick like that. I purchased this with the intent to get a bunch of dolls and outfits completed before the 2012 holidays so I can have these ready for my 6yr old niece for Christmas. Very cool....reminds me of the old Unite Colors of Benetton adds. Some of the photos are just so amuzing like a real photo shoot with Benetton or Vogue. Love love love this book.

Babes in the Wool, have given me a new inspiration for filling those long boring TV evenings, I had been knitting small dolls for small grandchildren, but these will suit the growing grandies in their teens. And me too!

There are several books available with ideas for long legged, modern dolls, and I have them, This one includes some creative techniques but especially some really great creations. The flexibility of choosing different removable wardrobe pieces and different faces, shapes makes them lots of fun and very doable.
But, after actually making a couple, I should caution: NOT FOR THE FAINT HEARTED or inexperienced!!Knitting is easy, but making up is difficult. Proceed very cautiously and patiently, then take out and start again!
