5.0 out of 5 stars The tragedy of growing up a "motherless child", December 26, 2009
This review is from: ''Babies Need Mothers'': How Mothers Can Prevent Mental Illness in their Children (Paperback)
A woman who lost her mother when she was young said on a radio show, "I can always spot a motherless child." I began thinking about people that I knew who grew up without their birth mother - including my own mother - and I seen saw common denominators.
It helped me understand things like why she used to beat me every day. She beat me every day until one day when I realized that the beating wasn't going to kill me. She never hit me again after that. I always wondered why. Now I understand - it is a control issue (to use an old cliche). That is the common element that I see in all of the "motherless children" I know: They don't ever want to be in a position where they can be abandoned.
If your own mother is not there for you, how can you ever depend on anybody ever again.
If you have young children or plan to, please read this book. Dr. McKenzie is a genius. He is highly respected in his field, he has dedicated his life to help people, and he has been a good friend to me for 30 years. I encourage you to get to know him through his book, and seriously consider what he has to say.
