Beware - reprint missing many pages!,

This review is from: Babies (So Tall Board Books) (Board book)
This book is so dear to me. I recently bought extra copies to give as gifts. I was so dismayed to see that this reprint is missing 6 pages from the original -- including a two-page spread near the center of the book with a blue background (and featured the only African American baby -- now gone). If you loved this book as a child, don't think that buying this reprint will replace the one you had. This abbreviated reprint has been published with the same ISBN as the copy I have from 1985 -- fraud! They should have changed the ISBN to reflect the change in content. I'm not sure if the 1991 reprint had the missing pages or not. The new one sold now was printed in 2003. I'm writing a letter to the editor to ask for a complete reprint! [...]

Very Dissapointed,

I have loved this book for years. My niece had several Fujikawa books that were recently handed down to my daughter. The hand-me-down copy of Babies (printed in 1980) was getting torn up so I ordered a new one to replace it. The new copy is missing 6 pages. My daughter is 19 months old and flips back and forth saying "grow, grow" looking for pages that are not there. Everything else is the same. This is still a beautiful book but I'm very dissapointed that this new version is missing pages...and so is my daughter.
Should have read the reviews before buying this reprint (printed in 2006).

Best Cuddle Book,
By A Customer
This review is from: Babies (So Tall Board Books) (Board book)
I've read this to my daughter since she was 4 mos. At 16 mos. she just loves this book. I use the pictures of babies doing things like being nice to a younger child, doing things for themselves, and being good or naughty to talk to her about day-to-day events. When I read the line, "All babies liked to be hugged and cuddled and loved," my daughter snuggles close to me and says, "Oh Baby." This book is priceless. The illustrations are not only beautiful but feature children of diverse backgrounds.

Babies has been in my library since it first came into print. My 7 children, ranging in age 11 to 28, and I have been reading ALL of Gyo Fujikawa's books. We especially love the drawings!

Every baby's favorite book,
By A Customer
This review is from: Babies (So Tall Board Books) (Board book)
I just purchased 6 copies to have on hand - I give this book to every newborn I am fortunate enough to know. I asked my 11 year old daughter what she remembered about this book, which was her and her 2 sisters' favorite. She said "I liked it when you read it slowly and i could match the words with the pictures. Something about the babies was very soothing". This book is magical for the way it mesmerizes even the smallest and fussiest of babies. It's the only thing my three girls have ever agreed on. I still keep it handy for any little visitors who come to our house.

A great first book for Baby!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Babies (So Tall Board Books) (Board book)
This is a remarkable picture book about babies. A great first book for parents to read to their little ones. It is able to capture and keep their attention. (A good bonding time.) The pictures are delicate and gentle...portraying babies doing routine, daily things...eating, sleeping, getting their diapers changed, playing with their toes, etc. It seems that young children can really identify with the pictures. My newest granddaughter looks at the picture of the baby crying and sticks out her upper lip. I first purchased this book years ago for my children (I bought three copies...one for each). All three have now been passed on to my grandchildren (it has passed between the generation gap) who enjoy it just as much. I am glad to find it still in print as I will continue to purchase it as a present for new babies as they arrive.

As a Child this was my favorite book. I still have it today in my baby trunk althought the binding is all worn off. Now for newborns this is always the first gift they get. I recently gave it to my 10 month old cousin, she loved turning the pages and looking at the colorful pictures.I am glad to see that after 27 years this book has survived. A wonderful book for Babies!

My Son LOVED This Book!,

I'd never read this book before it was given to my son as a gift when he was about one. It soon became his favorite book! He loved the pictures of the babies and the simple text that accompanied them. The overall message of the book, I thought, was lovely -- all babies like to be hugged and kissed and cuddled and loved.

Granddaughter loves this book,
This review is from: Babies (So Tall Board Books) (Board book)
Our 8 month old granddaughter loves Babies. Gyo Fujikawa's Babies was a hit with our 3 children when they were young also. It has such sweet illustrations and a sweet timeless message that all babies should be hugged, cuddled, and loved!
