Will a lonely girl's love for a critically ill baby endure?,
By A Customer
This review is from: Baby Alicia Is Dying (Paperback)
A beautiful story of the "poor little rich girl", Desi, and how through her Aunt Clare, starts volunteering at ChildCare, where 5 abandoned babies live. But these are not ordinary babies. They all test HIV+. She grows to love Alicia, a tiny AIDS baby of 5 months, and Alicia returns that love. Desi becomes almost like a mother to Alicia and is shocked and devastated when she realizes that AIDS does kill. But the tragedy results in a better relationship between Desi and her mother and the easing of her mother's pain over the sad memories of Matthew, the SIDS baby of 16 years ago. It was so sad and so beautiful the same time. I never really understood AIDS until I read this book. Beautiful.

A Touching Story,
By A Customer
This review is from: Baby Alicia Is Dying (Paperback)
The book Baby Alicia is Dying by Lurlene McDaniel, is a very good book. It tells of a teenaged girl who volunteers at Child Care,-a program that takes care of HIV-positive babies. Throughout the book, the main character, Desi, becomes attached to baby Alicia. Later, she not only has to deal with the unacceptance of her peers and mother, but also Alicia's fate. If you're a sentimental person, you are sure to enjoy this book. The plot, setting, and characters were realistic , and this was a book that was easy to comprehend and relate to. At the same time, the author kept it interesting by temporarily leaving out details thus making it a page turner. This book is enough to bring tears to your eyes and pursuade you to read McDaniel's other novels.

Baby Alicia Is Dying,
By Heather Hudson (Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Baby Alicia Is Dying (Paperback)
I absolutely loved this book (as I do all of her books.) It was a touching book that not only had a wonderful storyline, but it also showed the true affects of HIV. Most things, whether it is a book or movie, only show the 'good' side of the disease, but Lurlene McDaniel is not afraid to open the world's eyes to the facts!

Baby Alicia Is Dying,
This review is from: Baby Alicia Is Dying (Paperback)
The novel Baby Alicia is Dying, is a very good book. This novel is about a teenage girl, named Desi, a volunteer at a ChildCare center. No body likes the fact that she is volunteering to help HIV-positive babies. She has conflicts at school and home because no one understands how much she loves working at the ChildCare center.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Baby Alicia Is Dying (Turtleback School & Library Binding Edition) (School & Library Binding)
One of my favorite books is Baby Alicia Is Dying. It was an awesome book!!! It is about a girl that decides to volunteer at an organization that deals with HIV-Positive and aids babies that are very sick and possibly dying. After she continues going, she falls in love with one particular baby, Alicia. Every open chance she gets she goes to visit Alicia. She is like a mom to her. she loves Alicia with all of her heart but is very sad to think she could die. You should read this book to find out more. Lurlene McDaniel is the author of it and many other great books, so check them out. Like I said they're awesome!

Lurlene really hit a number on this one. This is the 5th book I've read by her and so far I think it's her best book. It is very well written and you feel like you can relate to the main character Desila so well. It is a very touching and kind book and I think every teenage girl should have the experince of reading this book.

One of Lurlene McDaniel's best works!!!!!!!!!,

This review is from: Baby Alicia Is Dying (Paperback)
I just finished this book, and it was WONDERFUL!!! It was really sad, of cource, but still a beautiful story. It really makes you want to reach out and try to help sick babies like Desi did, becuase it makes you realize that even though most HIV positive babies won't live to see their first birthday, it's still very important to fill their short little lives with love and happiness. This book was heart breaking, but wonderful. And I loved reading about Desi and Brian! And it had a bittersweet, but nice, ending. A diffenent must-read!!!

I loved this book. It was very sad. Little Baby Alicia, who has been abandoned by her teenage mother,is HIV positive. When Desi, a ninth grader, who feels unloved by her mother, goes to work at Childcare, she and Alicia grow very close to each other. When Alicia gets very sick and develops AIDS, Desi's world is torn apart. I am not going to spoil the book by saying what happened next. You have to read the book. You will cry at the end of it. I cried a lot. This was the first Lurlene McDaniel book that I read and I am definitely going to read more of them. Baby Alicia Is Dying is one of my favorite books.

The Sadest News,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Baby Alicia Is Dying (Paperback)
I liked this book bacuase is told me about a little girl that was born with HIV. Also that seh was born HIV positive. I liked this book also becasue it has great details of what the young girl went through since she was born. I mostly liked this book bacaue of the was it decribes the characters are doing, and what is on in their mind at that time and place in the book. The sadest part was that when i read this book that I have felt the same pain as Alicia does in the book because my grandma Burger died of being HIV positive back in January of 2005.

This book was about a teenage girl who feels neglected by her mother. To keep herself occupied she volunteers at ChildCare. There, she meets baby Alicia ( who is HIV positive) and becomes instantly attached. If you are a sentimental person I recommend this book. It's really touching. The book is also very easy to comprehend and is definitely a page turner. Because it's easy to relate, you may even cry at the end!
