Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

PreS?A pretty book about an adventurous toddler who climbs out of the crib and goes out the door and into the yard. Baby angels follow and alert the parents, who then catch the child in their arms. Each double-page spread has a simple, rhyming sentence telling the slight story from the child's point of view. The illustrations, done in pastels, show round, soft, huggable baby angels with expressive faces. Even the face of the toy lamb the toddler clutches changes to convey worry and pleasure. A sweet addition.?Martha Gordon, formerly at South Salem Library, NY

From Booklist

Ages 2^-4. From the moment baby opens her eyes, baby angels, clad in diapers, act as her guardians. They are her safety net as she climbs out of her crib, and they follow her as she toddles silently, unseen, past her unsuspecting parents and out the door. Both text and art are sweet and gentle, yet they exude the boundless energy of a curious toddler. Rendered in soft pastel chalks, the nursery and backyard scenes have lots of charming details, and the multicultural characteristics of the baby angels serve as a reminder of our diverse society. A good example of quality literature for the very young, this book will find ready acceptance in libraries offering story times for babies and toddlers. Baby Angels is a heartwarming book. I have read it to my child millions of times. He has loved the book ever since the first time that I read it to him. I have given the book to other children as well. THe illustrations are unbelievable and so true to life. They are absolutely gorgeous. The story is actually a prayer but is short and sweet holding even the youngest infant's attention. A lovely book to share with your child and a beautiful prayer to say each and every day. A must have for anyone who believes in angels....you will after reading this book.

A dear lady from my support group sent this book to my youngest son for his first birthday. We really love it because he has a brother that is an angel. I point to the angels in the pictures and say "Look there is Gabriel!". The neatest thing is that one of the angels looks like Gabriel did and the baby looks like my one year old! I plan to get several copies to pass out at my children's hospital in memory of Gabriel.

Reading as part of our bedtime routine is crucial. Our daughter, born in October 1999, loves this book especially when read in a voice slightly more forceful than a whisper. She has memorized when to turn the page, and she does so without being prompted.
If ever there should be an award for illustrations, this book has my vote! The baby angels are darling, and the baby in red is just as cute.
Plus, and perhaps most importantly at times, a parent can read this book in just a couple of minutes. This is enough time for our daughter to get relaxed so that she can prepare herself for a good night's sleep.

My daughter is 2 and we've been reading this book for quite a while now. She loves it! It's about baby angels that watch over a young child when he/she climbs out of the crib, goes outside by his/herself, etc. And no, my daughter has not gotten any "bad" ideas from this book. We enjoy this book so much I've given it as a gift and will more than likely give it again. It has a very soothing, rhythmic verse to it. Buy with confidence and enjoy!

What an adorable book this is showing that every little baby has watchful angels around them. Inside the pages of this book we have bright colorful illustrations, showing little baby exploring the world and his angels letting the parents know when the little one needs them.

All babies need angels and this is a wonderful reminder of the fact that they are there. Very nice book.

I just love that the illustrator chose to draw her angels not just as the typical blonde hair & blue eyed, but also included an adorable red haired angel, an asian and black angel as well. With a daughter from China I think it's important for her to see that there are angels that look just like her!

I don't have a problem with the baby in the book climbing out of his or her crib. That what a toddler does, it's their job to explore, to taste, to touch and being constantly on the move in their world. Reading to your child is so important and while reading it gives you the parent a chance to talk about climbing out of their crib, or climbing up onto something they shouldn't.

Our daughter loves to be read this book. She points to the chubby baby angels floating in the air and squeals with laughter. It's also a very sweet story that I enjoy reading her.

The illustrations are beautiful and I love the idea of Baby Angels as I believe in Angels but I'm afraid this book could give the most definately wrong idea to a child being told that Angels will always keep them from harm which we all know is not true; it gives the idea that you can wonder off from home/family and the angels will keep you safe; totally the wrong idea to give children, they could think that it is alright to go off without anyone.
