DK Book of Baby Animals - a review,

This is a cute, sturdy, medium-sized board book that is like many others in that it shows pictures of kittens, ducklings, tiger cubs, puppies, polar bear cubs, elephant babies, and bear cubs.
What is different about this book is that each type of baby is given two pages. On the first page there is a large, up-close picture of a baby animal, and on the second page are three smaller pictures showing the same or similar babies engaged in an activity, such as sleeping, running, or exploring. The pictures are labeled below so that a parent/reader can point at the word when speaking the action. On the pages for the ducklings, for example, there is a wonderful picture of a sweet little yellow duckling swimming. The water is clear, so that you can see him both above and below the water. This is helpful because some children don't immediately grasp that a duck continues beneath the surface (lol). The second page has three pictures, showing different ducklings, 'tumbling over', 'waddling', and 'floating'. Similarly the puppy page shows a big picture of a puppy sleeping, with three subsequent pictures showing a puppy: bounding, licking and playing. Four and a half Stars. Besides just nice pictures, this book offers a reader the chance to point out baby animals engaged in activities with the word below, enhancing the human baby's book experience.
