Why did I buy this?,
By A Customer
This review is from: Baby Animals Video: On the Farm [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I bought this tape because my now 17 month old daughter loves animals, she enjoys the Baby Dolittle-Neighborhood Animals and Mozart Nature Symphonies tapes and loves the DK "Touch and Feel" books. So, an animal video by DK Productions seemed perfect. Boy was I wrong. She has no patience for this video. Let me describe exactly what is on it. It is divided into 5 segments. A puppy (Doodle) and a kitten (Bungie) search through a pile of foam rubber shapes for animals, which show up in video tape clips. A child, a boy for the puppy and a girl for the kitten narrate the segments, providing facts about the animals and making jokes. Then there is a short cartoon. Here are the segments:1) Puppy looks for ducks. Finds--cows, goats, ostriches, sheep dogs and finally ducks. Short cartoon. 2) Kitten looks for pigs. Finds--rabbits, chickens, Highland cattle, then the pigs. Short cartoon. 3) Puppy looks for cows. Finds-- llamas, horses, goats and finally the cows. Short cartoon. 4) Kitten looks for goats. Finds-- donkeys, chickens, Belted Cows, sheep and then goats. Short cartoon. 5) Puppy looks for horses. Finds geese, llamas, American buffalo, pigs and finally horses. Short cartoon. As you can see, there is a lot of overlap, many of the animals are shown twice, and actually various cows show up 3 times. It really seems hap-hazard to me. Also the giggling by the child narrators is annoying to me personally, but not a reason not to buy this video. Had I know the overall format and design of this tape, I would not have bought it. I especially don't like the cartoons. They are the older ones, low resolution images with frenetic motion. My daughter is too over-stimulated by cartoons in general and these are no exception. Oh well, I'm hoping she'll enjoy it more when she is much older.

My two year old daughter LOVES this video!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Baby Animals Video: On the Farm [VHS] (VHS Tape)
If you have a child in your home that loves animals you have to add this to your collection. It is narrated by children (but they aren't obnoxious and you never see them) while an adorable puppy and kitten take your child through the video. It has a wide variety of animals and educates the child about the animal. To break the monotony (and keep young minds entertained) it also has animal cartoon clips; the good old-fashioned type we never see anymore. The added bonus: my husband and I aren't miserable when she choses to watch this video.

Gret Animal video,

This review is from: Baby Animals Video: On the Farm [VHS] (VHS Tape)
My daughter Emimie and I love this video. It's attractive for many reasons, but especially because it is narrated by a young boy. It has beautiful visuals, and a fact based narration, and is humorous. DK has done a great job with this one. It's intelligent, and nice for parents to watch too.
