4.0 out of 5 stars Rock revivals? - Get this one!, May 27, 2003
By
shadowking (north bondi, nsw Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Baby Animals (Audio CD)
Those that know the word "rock" and I mean ROCK will know this album - of course being Australian helps.

Sometime around the dawn of the nineties a young startlet by the name of Suze DeMarchi, tired of her solo career was looking for a band and before long The Baby Animals were born. This band was one of the most potent female led hard-rocking acts until their demise in the mid 90's. Vocalist DeMarchi possesed an enviable combination of confidence, a classic powerfull voice and sex appeal. The other standout was guitarist Dave Leslie who provided a great assault of delicious riffs, hooks and melody.

Their Debut album reached great popularity in Australia, with plenty of radio airplay. The first 7 songs are classic rock numbers, oozing appeal without being too commercial - These tracks beg to be played over and over. True highlights are: Make in end, the edgy "Working for the enemy" and "Early Warning".
The only real letdown are the last 3 tracks which are harder rocking , but lack the feel of the former.

Despite this, this is a must have album for anyone claiming to be a rock fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best damn band you've never heard!, April 4, 2002
This review is from: Baby Animals (Audio CD)
Hand-picked by Van Halen to open for them on a leg of their 1991-1992 U.S. tour, Australia's Baby Animals released two killer albums from 1991 to 1993, before their record label imploded and tied the band up in legal hassles for several years. This one, their self-titled debut album, sounds polished and raw at the same time. Vocalist/guitarist Suze DeMarchi is one of the greatest female rock vocalists of her generation. This record is all killer, no filler. Sample some of the tracks on Amazon.com if you don't believe me. Their fan base following in the Land Down Under was phenomenal, winning them countless awards and stellar record sales. In their short recording career they produced only this debut CD and a follow-up called "Shaved and Dangerous". There are/were even Baby Animals tribute bands in Australia! C'mon, now! Name ANY other band who achieved such a fanatical following to merit TRIBUTE BANDS after putting out only 2 records! Are you starting to get the picture? It has been over 10 years since this record came out (and coming up on 10 years since "Shaved and Dangerous" was released) and I still listen to the Baby Animals regularly. DeMarchi released a solo disc in 1999 called "Telelove". Buy that one, too. The rest of the world needs to realize that Australia is producing some GREAT rock and roll bands!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my faves, March 22, 2006
This review is from: Baby Animals (Audio CD)
Baby animals eponimous CD was (and is) one of my favorite CDs from the early '90s. From the single (and not a bad video, either)"Painless" through the other ten tracks, I like every single song on this album; I can't say that about more than 15 or 20 other Albums I own. Anyone looking for good pop with a hard rock edge should be happy with this album.
