3.0 out of 5 stars Great debut album from the early 90's, and a great singer!
One of the best Australian bands of the 90's, and they are still attracting more and more fans everyday.

Those that know the word "rock" and I mean ROCK will know this album - of course being Australian helps.

Sometime around the dawn of the nineties a young startlet by the name of Suze DeMarchi, tired of her solo career was looking for a band and before long The Baby Animals were born. This band was one of the most potent female led hard-rocking acts until their demise in the mid 90's. Vocalist DeMarchi possesed an enviable combination of confidence, a classic powerfull voice and sex appeal. The other standout was guitarist Dave Leslie who provided a great assault of delicious riffs, hooks and melody.

Their Debut album reached great popularity in Australia, with plenty of radio airplay. The first 7 songs are classic rock numbers, oozing appeal without being too commercial - These tracks beg to be played over and over. True highlights are: Make in end, the edgy "Working for the enemy" and "Early Warning".
The only real letdown are the last 3 tracks which are harder rocking , but lack the feel of the former.

Despite this, this is a must have album for anyone claiming to be a rock fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best damn band you've never heard!, April 4, 2002
This review is from: Baby Animals (Audio CD)
Hand-picked by Van Halen to open for them on a leg of their 1991-1992 U.S. tour, Australia's Baby Animals released two killer albums from 1991 to 1993, before their record label imploded and tied the band up in legal hassles for several years. This one, their self-titled debut album, sounds polished and raw at the same time. Vocalist/guitarist Suze DeMarchi is one of the greatest female rock vocalists of her generation. This record is all killer, no filler. Sample some of the tracks on Amazon.com if you don't believe me. Their fan base following in the Land Down Under was phenomenal, winning them countless awards and stellar record sales. In their short recording career they produced only this debut CD and a follow-up called "Shaved and Dangerous". There are/were even Baby Animals tribute bands in Australia! C'mon, now! Name ANY other band who achieved such a fanatical following to merit TRIBUTE BANDS after putting out only 2 records! Are you starting to get the picture? It has been over 10 years since this record came out (and coming up on 10 years since "Shaved and Dangerous" was released) and I still listen to the Baby Animals regularly. DeMarchi released a solo disc in 1999 called "Telelove". Buy that one, too. The rest of the world needs to realize that Australia is producing some GREAT rock and roll bands!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my faves, March 22, 2006
This review is from: Baby Animals (Audio CD)
Baby animals eponimous CD was (and is) one of my favorite CDs from the early '90s. From the single (and not a bad video, either)"Painless" through the other ten tracks, I like every single song on this album; I can't say that about more than 15 or 20 other Albums I own. Anyone looking for good pop with a hard rock edge should be happy with this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Band Rocks!!!And Suzie Is Pretty HOT Too!!!, April 25, 2005
This review is from: Baby Animals (Audio CD)
I just love this album which was recorded back in 1991 and still sounds as frseh today as it was back then. Good Hard Rock albums are hard to find and this one is a gem. Suzie DeMarchi belts out such classics as "One Word" and "Early warning" with her unique hard hitting vocal style and she is backed by heavily overdriven guitars on these two tracks. This album proves that Rock is indeed Eternal and Timeless.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard Rock Fans Need This Album!, March 18, 2004

When i first picked up this album i thought it was a greatest hits! Then to find out that they only made 2 albums, and this was the debut album only made me rush to hear there second, which disapointed me :(

This album is terrific! And i hope the rumors about this band getting back together are true! Suzi Demachi and the group really rocks!

Dont think that women can not rock and make great albums and not just a couple of songs, because this album is a must have.... i notice Shaved And Dangerous is higher rated... but ignore that, this is a must have album for hard rockers! And she will become one of your favorite female rockers! Take my word on it! The whole album rocks and look at the price???? your getting a bargin!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars If you like your rock n roll snarly....cop this, February 24, 2001

Having seen Baby Animals go from pub band in perth to international stars all i can say is if you like your rock n roll snarly then this is the one for you. Suzi de Marchi will twist you 'round her little finger, while the rest of the band keeps it tight and pounding. Not a dud track on this album, definitely five star material

5.0 out of 5 stars I just heard this song on the radio, July 8, 2005
This review is from: Baby Animals (Audio CD)
Jeez, 'A music fan'. Are you bagging the band, or Australia? I'm not a particularly patriotic guy, but that comment about our being 'limited to a narrow range of topics by the limited range of lifestyles available due to the contrains of the country's environment' was rather offensive if you ask me. The 'Baby Animals' rock hard.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Favorite Band; a Favorite Album, February 24, 2009
This review is from: Baby Animals (Audio CD)
I'm a boomer, and most of the music I like is classic rock. I accidently caught Baby Animals in a video on MTV one day and they knocked my socks off, unlike the mostly rhythm-type bands out there in recent years (as I perceive them). Then, I accidently caught them on Letterman one night, and loved them there also (so did David). I bought this album and it has been a favorite of mine ever since, along with "Shaved and Dangerous" which is even better. I've had them on every media I have used except vinyl, from tape through Minidisc to PC to CD to iPod. If you like good, clean hard rock, go for it while these CD's are still available -- you won't be disappointed. Ignore all the baloney about Australia etc. in other reviews -- the music is sensational, and that's all that matters.
