Book Description

Desire, 1377 July 1, 2001

U.S. Marine Jeff Hunter never anticipated the five words Kelly Rogan greeted him with upon his homecoming. Learning he was a father shook him clear down to his military boots. But once he held his little girl in his arms, he knew he'd do anything to keep both mother and child.

However, Kelly refused his proposal, claiming she didn't want to trap a husband. Still, Jeff had never felt about any woman the way he felt about Kelly. And one way or another, he'd prove his attentions weren't inspired by duty--but by love!

More About the Author

USA Today best selling author Maureen Child is the author of more than ninety romance novels and novellas. Maureen is a five time nominee for the prestigious Rita award from Romance Writers of America.

One of her novels, A POCKETFUL OF PARADISE, was made into a CBS-TV movie called The Soul Collector, starring Melissa Gilbert, Bruce Greenwood and Ossie Davis.

Maureen was not only on the Texas set to watch her characters come to life in front of the cameras, she was also tossed into the last scene by her husband and the producer, who both thought this would be a fun way to humiliate an author!

When her kids were small, Maureen started writing as not only a way to stay sane, but in the hopes of finding a job she could do and stay at home with them. Sanity is still an issue, but she did manage to write her way into a career she wouldn't trade for anything.

Over the years, she's written under lots of different names and she prefers the term 'pseudonym' to 'alias'. As Ann Carberry, she wrote western historical romances. As Kathleen Kane, she wrote not only Americana romances, but western paranormal romances as well. As Sarah Hart, she wrote one really spectacular western paranormal that is still one of her favorites. And once, Ann Carberry even wrote a Victorian historical which she absolutely loved doing.

Under her own name, Maureen writes short contemporary novels for Silhouette Desire--books she loves to write because of their fast pace and condensed story telling. Maureen is also writing funny, contemporary paranormal romances for NAL and darker paranormal stories for Silhouette Nocturne.

Life is busy but when she isn't writing you can find Maureen sitting under her 'thinking tree', coming up with new ideas for even more stories. When she isn't dreaming up a new book or writing a current one, Maureen loves to travel. Her favorite vacation spot is Ireland, with Scotland coming in a very close second. She and her husband love a good road trip and Maureen's looking forward to the day when she can actually drive to Ireland. Talk about the best of both worlds!

Maureen lives with her family in Southern California and loves to hear from her readers. Visit her online at www.maureenchild.com.

5.0 out of 5 stars Danger comes in many forms! -- Highly recommended, July 4, 2001
This review is from: His Baby! (Bachelor Battalion) (Desire, 1377) (Paperback)
U.S. Marine Jeff Hunter thrives under the risk of danger. Belly crawling on beaches to save diplomats or risking his life for his country comes easy. Taking care of his new daughter, the one he meets when she's already nine months old, proves to be the greater challenge.

Jeff met Kelly began their relationship with a lip lock when he performed CPR, and remained in a similar lip lock for the entirety of his two-week leave. The following eighteen months were reduced to postcards and a single five-minute phone call, but Jeff couldn't forget Kelly, and eagerly looked forward to his leave so he could return to her arms.

Jeff never expected to be met at the door by Kelly's enraged brother or his three backups on the front porch. And he wasn't prepared for the second female to capture his heart, much as the Kelly had done. Now Kelly's the mother of HIS BABY!, and Jeff determined to do the right thing. Too bad she doesn't see it his way.

Maureen Child lends a delightfully vivid spin on this classic plot in HIS BABY! The heroine's fierce independence and willingness to remain in Jeff's life without demanding a career change provides a refreshing and sparkling characterization. The vividly realized scene with the new father asleep with baby on his chest and fierce, Kelly's brother asleep nearby is wonderful! Indeed, These powerful characters, including the overly protective brothers, result in a superb read, making HIS BABY! highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure enjoyment!, July 29, 2001
This review is from: His Baby! (Bachelor Battalion) (Desire, 1377) (Paperback)
At times, this book sparkled with wit and humor. At times it made your heart clench at the thought of such a lovely man as Jeff Hunter being an unwanted foster child tossed from home to home.

The characters were real - well "fleshed out". Each with a history and a life all their own. As a reader, you understand what motivates each of them - yet as the reader, you're helpless as they hurt each other and you wonder over and over - will these two find true love?

Of course, they do - wouldn't be much of a romance novel if there were no happy ending, hmm? But Jeff and Kelly's conflicts were so deep-seated in who they were that their "happy ending" seemed, at times, to be unatainable.

This is a great book - one I truly enjoyed reading.
