5.0 out of 5 stars Great for pre-schoolers
I have two girls - a 3yr old and a 5 1/2 yr old. Neither have taken ballet lessons before. We've had this video for about three months and the girls watch it (and have ballet class!) at least twice a week. I wanted to enroll the girls in a beginner ballet class, but it didn't work with our schedule. This video is really good for introducing the basic things you would...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not baby ballet
This is a great tape for an older child, but my daughter is 3 and a lot of the steps and moves are to difficult for her level. However, she does have a lot of fun tring to do the moves. So if you are purchasing this tape for your childs enjoyment it is a good tape, but I wouldn't expect many children under 4 or 5 to master the steps.

This video is really good for introducing the basic things you would probably encounter in a beginning ballet class. The moves are clearly demonstrated and explained, then you practice what was just taught. The video is divided into two halves. In the first half, each move is explained, demonstrated, then practiced. In the second half, the "class" moves through the steps taught, without the instructor demonstrating, just like you would in a ballet class. Both the 3 yr old and 5.5 yr old have been able to understand and learn the moves. I was looking for a traditional ballet class video and I've been very happy with Baby Ballet. (We don't have a ballet barre at our home, we just use the kitchen chairs for barre work and do the class barefoot in our family room.) Both girls are starting to do some of the moves around the house when the tape isn't on, so I think the material is age appropriate.

5.0 out of 5 stars Informative new ways to teach ballet, November 21, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Baby Ballet [VHS] (VHS Tape)
As a dance teacher, I was impressed with the way this video gave some good ideas and new ways to approach movements. The movements were actual dance moves, not just "hop around like a bunny rabbit". I would say this video is perfect for a mature child, and possibly one that has had a little bit of dance beforehand, but nothing that a child without a dance background couldn't master. My only wish is that all of the children in my classes were as well behaved and as smart as the children on the videos!

5.0 out of 5 stars Granddaughter in heaven, July 25, 2006
This review is from: Baby Ballet (DVD)
My 3 year old granddaughter kept telling all of us, she wants to be a ballerina. I thought, before putting her in a ballet class, I'd see if I could buy a dvd that would teach her the basics to see how she would do. This dvd did just that. She loves it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cheesy...but she loves it!, January 9, 2007

This review is from: Baby Ballet (DVD)
I bought this DVD for my 3 year-old niece. It looks like someone taped it at their daughter's dance lesson, but my neice loves it! She has watched it over and over again and does the exercises right along with the dancers. All in all, I'd give it a "2" for cinematography and a "10" for doing what it was designed to do-pique her interest in ballet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good video, January 30, 2006
By
This review is from: Baby Ballet (DVD)
They did a great job of breaking the video up into short segments. The instructor thoroughly demonstrates each step before the 'student' practices with the class on the video. The length is about 30 minutes long, which is about as long as my 6 year old can handle. My 4 and 6 year old daughters have no prior ballet experience and are fully able to follow the instructions on the video.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not for babies, March 29, 2007

The tape is very well put together, the segments are short, the program is easy to follow and my daughter has a lot of fun with it.
I am only giving it 4 stars because the title is absolutely misleading- this is not a tape for babies. The moves require advanced motor skills, the ability to follow instructions and a bit of concentration.

This review is from: Baby Ballet (DVD)
I haven't danced in forty years and so when I decided to teach my two granddaughters (aged 4 & 7) the basics of ballet, I needed something to refresh my memory. This CD is perfect!! It is just like attending ballet class with a wonderful instructor. We have been having so much fun!! I highly recommend this CD for all beginners, young and old!

5.0 out of 5 stars just like a ballet class, December 27, 2006
This review is from: Baby Ballet (DVD)
This product is great for my 3 year old daughter. This is just like having her go to a beginner ballet class. She loves this dvd and wants to watch it almost every day. It is a well organized format, and easy to follow. Yes, the teacher doesn't smile, but my daughter doesn't mind, and that's what matters.

1.0 out of 5 stars Boring Ballet, August 20, 2008

My 3-year-old is ballet crazy, but this DVD completely bored her. She left after about 5 minutes. It is so poorly produced, it looks like a bad home video - bad lighting, really boring message, etc. It moves very slowly, not much action or pacing, so it just bores the kids. Sadly, there are not a lot of other options out there, but this is not worth your money.
