Product Description

Hospital provided delivery gowns are simply awful - you are in a totally new environment and have no option than to wear this old oversized gown given to you. Often you are asked to wear two, one backwards to cover the gaps in the back while getting up and moving around. The last thing you need to be doing is constantly adjusting, strings untied, shoulder falling down and retying those horrible strings or asking someone to do it for you! You want comfort, you want to feel covered, you want to feel prepared - and maybe a little bit of control - not to mention feeling good about yourself!

When designing these Gownies, having been through numerous deliveries ourselves, we took into account everything that should be changed on a delivery gown - and here it is! So just say "no thank you' to that tatty old gown and put on something from home, it feels great, clean and stylish - and yes! You can look stylish when giving birth. So many hospital staff have contacted us to enquire on our Gownie line - the compliments will just come rolling in!

Congratulations - you did it! Your precious little one is finally here after all those months, you will look great for those new baby pictures, no more flashing oop's shots sent to all you family and friends! Consider more than one Gownie - they are great for your hospital stay as the examinations keep on coming and perhaps breast feeding is now here - a fabulous nursing nightgown. C Section moms have loved the Gownies for the recovery time as they are easy to wear, comfortable and have continued style throughout their healing.

I purchased the brown gownie with multi-colored flowers. It was sooo adorable that all the nurses and both my Doctors all gave me compliments. The gown also made me feel really special and pretty for the birth of my little one not to mention that my pictures look really cute! The gown is sturdy (much sturdier than the typical hospital gown) and has snap buttons in the back and also on the side which is great for nursing. very comfortable. I will save my gownie to use with baby number 3 set to arrive a few years down the road!

While this gown is cute, I soon discovered it was not the most practical. Becuase the shoulders don't have snaps all the way down, it doesn't work for when you have an IV. You can feed the IV through the sleeve, but this is a bit cumbersome. I would disagree with this gown as having full medical access so you might want to consider that before purchasing.

It never occurred to me to take my own gown to the hospital, but when I started natural childbirth classes, they mentioned wearing your own clothes at the hospital might make it feel more comfortable and me more relaxed. So I looked online and found this, read the reviews, registered for it, and my mom got it for me. I was SO satisfied with it. The only thing is it is $$ on something I wore a couple of days in the hospital and then went in a box, but I've lent it to a friend and if I have another baby it will definitely come out again. Also I did not wear it after the hospital because it is very much a hospital gown and I liked my nursing pj's better for at home.
This doesn't even compare with regular hospital gowns. It's made for a childbirth stay so it's very roomy, so you don't end up wearing two gowns or trying to keep a gown together. For childbirth I wore a strapless swimsuit cover and then threw it away because it had every bodily fluid imaginable on it, so I definitely wouldn't wear this nice thing to give birth, but as soon as I got to my room I took a shower and put this on and it was wonderful. So comfortable, so not hospital-like, so modest and just an all-around great idea. I agree it could be the perfect shower gift.

    ****UPDATE AFTER THREE USES!*****
I've used this in the hospital with three babies now and thought I'd add a few quick details.

-I purchased the L/XL Sophie pattern.
-I weighed over 200 lbs at each delivery and never felt like the gown fit tight. It fit great.
-The access for breastfeeding was invaluable.
-Second time I didn't make it into the delivery room for the birth but third time I wore a strapless swim cover again and it was such a good idea again.

I bought one of these gowns for my first baby, and was informed at the hospital that if I wore it and needed emergency surgery (c-section), the snaps would conduct electricity through my body and would leave burns. So I had to wear the nasty hospital gown anyway! If you want to wear your own gown, consider getting one without metal snaps. I'm modifying my gown to be metal-free for baby #2, but I would have not bought this gown if I had known about this issue last time.

I really disliked the itchy, used (not to mention ugly) hospital gowns during my first labor and delivery but didn't want to spend a fortune on something I might have to throw away after one use. I am normally a 14-16, but after reading several reviews decided to get the XXL Molly gown to ensure I had enough room. It is pretty big on me, but not enough to fall off the shoulders or look horribly huge. It's just roomy enough to move around and feel comfortable. I would recommend buying the size you are pregnant, not the pre-pregnancy size unless you are one of those super tiny pregnant people. And if you are normally over a size 20 this might not be the line for you. Etsy also has some really cute gowns that tie in the back instead of snap. My only complaint is that the snaps pop open with minimal pressure. That may be frustrating while walking the halls during labor. Delivery of this product was here in 2 business days even though the order stated it was going to take 2 weeks.

UPDATE: I am providing an update after wearing this gown during labor and delivery. I pre-washed the gown by itself on gentle with mild detergent and dried it on low. It maintained its shape and was softer after washing. I put this gown on when being admitted to the hospital. All the nurses commented on how much they liked it. There were no issues in administering the IV or putting on the blood pressure cuff. There was no time for an epidural so I don't know about the ease of that, but the snap buttons up the back should allow for easy placement of an epidural. I walked the very busy halls of the hospital with nothing underneath and felt comfortably covered and modest. No issues with snaps popping open. I was able to breastfeed my baby easily after delivery by unsnapping the front buttons. Upon coming home, I washed the gown again, and it cleaned up very easily. I plan on using it again for future deliveries.

I ordered the Helen Gownie. I like the pattern and colors, along with the length. Some of the gowns look to be shorter than others, the Helen comes below the knee. I look forward to using this gown when I have my baby, and think it will be very practical. The snaps in the back ensure great coverage, with nothing peeking out. The snaps in the front will allow for easy breast feeding.
When ordering, I was most concerned with getting the proper size. I am 5'6" and normally about 130lbs. I am 31 weeks pregnant and now about 160 or so pounds, and the Small/Medium is plenty big! The gown looked huge when I took it out of the package. Granted, it may shrink a bit after washing, and I will get bigger by the time I'm due, but this gown will still be roomy due to the generous cut. I don't like things tight, so I was almost going to go with the larger size. I'm glad I didn't.
