The "meat" of this video is as enjoyable as the previous two musical-themed Baby Einstein videos (Baby Bach, and Baby Mozart), but I am disappointed that Disney, who is now the parent company of Baby Einstein, chose to change the format we moms have come to depend on. I should start by explaining that in our household have numerous Baby Einstein videos --Mozart, both Dolittle's, Shakespeare, Van Gogh-- which we adore and watch nearly every day. My 2.5 year old and 10 month old both love the music and the whimsical puppets, etc.

This review is from: Baby Beethoven [VHS] (VHS Tape)
The "meat" of this video is as enjoyable as the previous two musical-themed Baby Einstein videos (Baby Bach, and Baby Mozart), but I am disappointed that Disney, who is now the parent company of Baby Einstein, chose to change the format we moms have come to depend on. When you have a crying baby, it's always great to just pop in a Baby Einstein video, because "the show" usually starts up right after the caterpillar creeps across the screen. Then it's usually 28 or so minutes of non-stop fun, followed by the "Hi, I'm Julie Clark..." advertising portion, and then on to the credits, which show each toy that was used in the video. This was always great because a baby would still be watching right up until the very end even though "the show" was over. Not so with the Baby Beethoven VHS! This video features a full five minutes of the newly redone advertising portion AT THE START OF THE VIDEO! This does not capture a baby's attention right away like all the other Baby Einstein videos. Also, since the ads are at the start of the video, the tape ends rather abruptly, and although the manufacturers of toys used are names, each toy is not shown again. This is a bummer if you want to buy any of the toys and you don't know what they're called. Aside from these couple of complaints, the video itself is good, but I would really recommend to Disney, for future Baby Einstein videos, that they please put the ad section at the end instead of up front.

5.0 out of 5 stars Smashing!, December 31, 2002
By

My 6 month old daughter watched Baby Mozart VHS first and sat through the entire video (about 30 minutes)! A couple of days later I played this DVD which is almost double the length, she again watched the whole thing attentatively. Since the dvd is easier to play, we have been playing it at least a couple of time a day and everytime she quietly watches it, rubbing her little feet in satisfaction. Further, she watches it all by herself on her bouncer seat, or sitting on sofa, giving us plenty of time to ourselves - since she loves us to hold her these days.

I tried to play others like the ballet Swan Lake, thinking the beautiful classical music along with ballet would do the same trick. Boy was I wrong! I guess that's why these Baby Einstein titles are no ordinary products, they simply catch baby's attention easily.

Get these titles, they are well worth the money and they'll last a long time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not Disneyfied, October 23, 2002

Just wanted to let anyone who was disappointed by Disney's influence over the last release (Baby Newton) know that this newest video is more or less true to form of the original videos.

4.0 out of 5 stars great dvd!, February 21, 2005

My 6-month-old loves this dvd. We rotate it with Baby Mozart and the Language Nursery DvDs and she doesn't get seem to get bored with it. She especially loves the puppets. One thing that I would change would be the first 4 minutes or so as it takes a while to really get going. Also, there is a scene with a puzzle that goes on way too long and my daughter starts to get a bit antsy. Otherwise, great dvd.

5.0 out of 5 stars works like a miracle with fussy babies, September 15, 2003

This DVD is absolutely wonderful! It is one of the only things that will quiet my fussy baby. It is truly a lifesaver, as it occupies him so that I can get work done at home. He watches the DVD for the entire 30 minutes straight! Not even children's shows on TV will hold his attention like that. Contrary to some of the other reviews, I find the video very entertaining and even comical in parts ! The images are perfect for babies, and the music is well orchestrated for little ones, yet entertaining enough for adult ears. If you buy the DVD version, you don't have to listen to any of the advertisements that the reviewers complained about after buying the VHS version. I would definitely recommend this DVD for anyone who has a baby. We will be buying more Baby Einstein products in the future.

THAT SAID, my 10 month old (who was 7 at the original time of purchase) can not stand to watch the Baby Beethoven video. He bursts into tears every time I have tried to show it to him. (I've tried different points on the tape.)

I have no idea why this should be so (music too somber? puppets too scary?) but I thought I should warn those who were making their first purchase to try any of the other videos.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good one to start your collection, June 28, 2003
By
My four-month-old son just loves Baby Beethoven and Baby Mozart. Their very similiar in format -- lovely music, colorful toys, objects spinning, etc. So if you're looking for a couple Baby Einstein films to start your collection for your young infant, Baby Beethoven would be perfect. My son loves it -- he smiles and giggles when he knows it's coming on, he laughes and "talks" to the puppets, and wiggles his legs all around. I think I even saw his swaying or dancing one time.

So if your baby is very young (say, under 8 months or so?), I recommend sticking to this type of film -- where your child loves the colors, movements, shapes, etc. But be careful moving on to other Baby Einstein films. My four-month-old hated Baby Neptune, since it had more real life footage -- kids playing in a puddle, a whale crashing into the sea, etc. Not the most exciting for a young infant. I think it just has to do with colors and silliness -- my son even loves the VeggieTales DVDs -- and not an interest in seeing actual people.

5.0 out of 5 stars Back to the basics, October 23, 2002

After the slight departure of Baby Newton from the traditional Baby Einstein series, we were happy to see that Baby Beethoven got back to the basics. Unlike Baby Newton, our daughter loved Baby Beethoven the first time. Disney made the right decision in going back to the basics for this series. The appeal is definitely back in Baby Beethoven.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stay-at-home Mom, September 18, 2003
By A Customer
This is an excellent video! My 3 month old daughter absolutely loves the continuous music and multitude of toys. Her eyes glue to the screen whenever I turn it on. I was also given Baby Mozart and Baby Bach, but they don't keep her attention as much as this one. They often interrupt the Bach DVD with stagnant photos of toys instead of showing them in action, which is rather boring. =( If you want to spend money on any of the Baby Einstein collection, buy this one for your son or daughter.

4.0 out of 5 stars What a Lifesaver!, April 16, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Baby Beethoven [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is the first Baby Einstein video we have gotten and my 6 month old son loves it! He got it for Christmas, so he was only two months old at the time, but I couldn't believe that a video could catch and keep his attention for a full half hour. I am not impressed either with the introduction before the video but since this is our first video I didn't realize the others show it at the end. My husband and I can't stand to sit and watch the video but it sounds like some of the other ones may be better. I have also noticed my son will start fussing during certain parts of the video but then when something more interesting (to him at least)comes on he won't make another sound. This video has been a real help many times when he is fussy and nothing else makes him happy. I just pop it in and I have a half hour of quiet time and I use that time to get some much needed things done. I have been excited about buying another video but I would prefer to have something I would be able to sit through. I also have some of the Baby Einstein books and I am anticipating when he is older so I can get the flashcards as well. We have tried other animated Disney movies but none can hold his attention like this. I am reading reports of not liking this tape so well but I am even more anxious to try the other ones if they are better than this! I recommend these tapes to everyone I know with infants!
