5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for sharing the Christmas story with little ones, December 14, 2010
This review is from: The Baby Bible Christmas Storybook (The Baby Bible Series) (Board book)
Audra Jennings from the B&B Media Group sent me this delightful little book for the purpose of review, and I am so glad that she did!

I have read this book to my 22 month old daughter a couple of times and she loves it! Now when you ask her to go get a book to read, she runs and finds this one, no matter where it is in the house and hands it to you and says, "Baby G-us" (her pronunciation of Jesus).

The illustrations are simple, but colorful. Each page gives you a different phase of the Christmas story along with the scripture so you can read to your little one from the Bible. Each phase is told in four short sentences followed by interactive suggestions, which keeps the little one's attention. At the end of each "story" is a one sentence prayer. Here is an example from the book:
Mary's Secret
Luke 1:30-31
The angel told Mary a special secret.
Put your fingers on your lips: shhhhh.
Mary will have a baby.
Point to Mary in the picture.
The baby will be God's Son, Jesus.
Pretend to rock a baby.
Mary was glad to be a mommy to Jesus.
Smile a big smile.
Dear God, thank You for the best secret: Jesus. Amen
If you have infants or toddlers in your home or know someone who does, this would be an excellent gift this Christmas season. Or Grandparents, this would be a valuable resource to have on hand for those little ones in your life who might visit from time to time.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Gift for Families with Young Children, December 2, 2010
By
This review is from: The Baby Bible Christmas Storybook (The Baby Bible Series) (Board book)
When my boys were little, we enjoyed the Baby Bible Storybook, a book of simple Bible stories paired with sweet finger plays, rhymes, and other activities that made the Bible stories come alive for the youngest listeners. And so, when I was given the opportunity to review the Baby Bible Christmas Storybook by Robin Currie [David C. Cook; Board book edition (October 1, 2010)], I was most excited. The Baby Bible Christmas Storybook does not disappoint. With simply worded stories; brightly-colored illustrations; and fun actions and activities, the board book version of The Baby Bible Storybook would make a wonderful gift for any family with young children, from infants through preschoolers.

Special thanks to Karen Davis, Assistant Media Specialist, The B&B Media Group for sending me a review copy. I received this book free for the purpose of reviewing it. I received no other compensation for this review. The opinions expressed in this review are my honest opinions. Your experience may vary.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reviewed For Book Pleasures... Great for children 0-5, amazing content, November 30, 2010

This review is from: The Baby Bible Christmas Storybook (The Baby Bible Series) (Board book)
The Baby Bible Christmas Storybook introduces your child to the Christmas story with bright, colorful pictures, simple prayers and suggested actions to bring the stories to life. The sixteen short stories bring parents and children together to learn the wonderful story of Christmas in an interactive manner.

I really enjoyed this Christmas storybook. The illustrations were wonderful and brought the Christmas story to life. They are bright, vivid and easy to see. My daughter was constantly pointing and naming objects, actions and places or animals. The book itself is unique because it gives suggested hand motions under each line in the story for parents to interact with their children. Here is an example:

Joseph knocked on the inn door
[Knock, knock, knock]

He looked for a place to stay in Bethlehem
[Look high and low]

Every room was full
[Shake your head: no room]

At last they stayed in a warm stable.
[Ask: What animals live in a stable?]

Each "chapter" of this book has different movements or prompting questions to encourage parents and children to interact with the story. Ideally this makes the book perfect for children 0-5 years of age. The book also includes a prayer at the end of each "chapter". For example:

Chapter: A Long Trip
Story: Trip to Bethlehem
Prayer: Dear God, keep us safe when we travel. Amen

Chapter: A Manger Bed
Story: Jesus bed of hay
Prayer: Dear God, thank you for my own bed. Amen

Chapter: Listen to This
Story: Sheppard's tell of Jesus birth
Prayer: Dear God, show me who to tell about Jesus. Amen

The prayers are simple and easy. They are perfect for children who are learning all about God's world around them. I would recommend this Bible Christmas Storybook for children ages 0-5. Both my two and four year old enjoy reading it and are able to get different lessons and enjoyment from the stories. This simple book has quite a lot to offer. I was very impressed. The last page has a guide for "Baby Bible moments together" to help parents get the most from their time spent with this book. I appreciated this extra touch.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Baby Bible Christmas Storybook, October 8, 2010
This review is from: The Baby Bible Christmas Storybook (The Baby Bible Series) (Board book)
I love Christmas! And sharing the love of the Savior and His birth is the BEST thing about the Christmas season.
I teach young children at church so am always on the look out for nice books that have a great message for the youngsters. When I received The Baby Bible Christmas Storybook I knew that this was one of those books that I would use at Sunday School for the little ones.
The Baby Bible is made out of wonderful, resilient laminate press board. A little one can drool on the pages and then said drool can easily be wiped off without hurting the book. The book is somewhat heavy so a parent or caregiver can help the child hold the book. However, it's a nice size for little hands to hold on to.
The Bible starts out with Mary's Secret from Luke 1:30 then skips back to Matthew chapter 2. This isn't like a storybook that one just reads words out of. For example the first page begins like this:
"The angel told Mary a special secret.
Put your fingers on your lips: shhhh.
Mary will have a baby.
Point to Mary in the picture.
The baby will be God's Son, Jesus.
Pretend to rock a baby.
Mary was glad to be a mommy to Jesus.
Smile a big smile.
Dear God, thank You for the best secret: Jesus. Amen."
The illustrations are "cutesy" pictures. Sweet faces with smiles, big flowing people and chubby animals are drawn for young children. The colors are not so bright as to make a child feel squeamish from distressingly bright colors.
I also like the interaction that the book offers between the reader and the child. This is a 5 star book that is great for a Preschool Sunday School class, Nursery Class setting or just a book to read and interact with your own sweet child or grandchild.

5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful gift opportunity, October 6, 2010

(VINE VOICE)    (REAL NAME)
This book was originally published in 2001 and now they are republishing it in 2010. It is supposed to be an interactive teaching tool for parents to use with their children from birth to three years old. I would go a little bit further, setting the target audience perhaps from 1 to 5 years old. The idea is quite simple and intelligent. For every verse that is read to the child, an action is triggered, like "Tap your hands on your knees", or "Spread your arms far apart", or even "Point to the baby in the picture". It is a very nice way of involving the child in the reading of the story. The vocabulary is simple. The text is taken from the Scriptures, either from Matthew or Luke. The birth of Jesus is covered in a simple and unforgettable way to the children. The format of the book is very appropriate and it is very resistant, hold the pages together even if it is handled by a more agitated child. It is really beautifully produced, with very nice illustrations and it will make a wonderful gift for new parents.

B&B Media group were kind enough to send me a copy for reviewing through their blogger book review program.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Baby Bible Christmas Storybook, October 4, 2010
This review is from: The Baby Bible Christmas Storybook (The Baby Bible Series) (Board book)
The Baby Bible Christmas Storybook is a great way to introduce Scripture to little ones. Each page references one or two verses and tells the "story" of Jesus' birth. Additionally, hand motions, questions, gestures, etc. are prompted so the reader will involve babies/toddlers in the reading of the story. The book is very simple and the illustrations are cute. There are other books in this same series as well.

I received a free copy of this book from The B&B Media Group in exchange for my fair and honest review.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Baby Bible Christmas Storybook, October 4, 2010
This review is from: The Baby Bible Christmas Storybook (The Baby Bible Series) (Board book)
THE BABY BIBLE CHRISTMAS STORYBOOK is a Christmas story book that takes the biblical account of Jesus' birth into bite sized pieces. For instance, the first one is Mary's Secret. And gives the scripture reference, then four sentences about the verse along with hand actions, so it will be visual, ending with a short prayer.

The illustrations are colorful, and hold the child's attention, and the Bible storybook is a firm boardbook with pages that won't get ripped easily.

My youngest child is five, so she's a bit old for this book (in my opinion, but the guideline says for ages 4 - 8), but even so, she was enthralled by THE BABY BIBLE CHRISTMAS STORYBOOK and wanted to sit down and look at the pictures.

With Christmas coming, this is an ideal book to give to your favorite baby or preschooler. He or she will enjoy looking through it and it can be used for a short devotional for the child, guaranteed to hold his or her attention. I recommend this book. This was originally published in 2001.
