Why the Academy overlooked this movie, no one knows. A touching story featuring excellent acting and beautiful scenery. Almost as good as listening to Ramone & Frrrrrunkis in the Morning.

I don't know what these other reviews are about, but it's not this "Something Weird" edition. Here we have 2 clunkers from the "Grindhouse" genre that make Hershall Lewis look like a genius. "My Baby is Black" is just plain bad. I couldn't sit through the whole thing. I like "bad is good", but this is brutal. "Checkerboard" is more watchable. If you can imagine a french (english dubbed) version of "Mudhoney" (without much nudity), you'll have an idea of the kind of flick this is. This is back-country hickster racial yockel fun. Of course, today's society would never tolerate the language ( the "N" word gets thrown around a lot)and storyline, but it's all to be taken as it was made. I truly believe the intention here is to mock racial insensitivity. I could be wrong (I hope I'm not!). As usual the extras are the main attraction as you get a couple of featurettes that are better than the movies. One is a "mondo" style featurette trying to justify the actual mentality of these films! I won't spoil anything for you, but if bad cinema is your cup of tea, you may want to check this out. Why 4 stars? Because I won't put anyone down that releases rare gems from the by-gone drive-in days.

When I first saw this flick my dame and I immediately went to the corner store and bought tootsie rolls. Amazing movie. Little Jimmy plays an amazing birdfeeder. FRRRRrunkis
