Book Description

New Colour Series August 28, 1998
The most common jetliners in service today are those that seat less than 180 passengers, and in this class the "Baby Boeings" are the most successful. Author Robbie Shaw covers the entire 737 family, whose production run has topped 3,000 since 1967, and the venerable 727 tri-jet, which is rapidly disappearing from fleets around the world due to soaring fuel prices and more strident noise controls. All the photographs included in this voices have never before been published.

Shaw's detailed text explains the histories of all the jetliners shown, concisely detailing the manufacturing history of each. Photographs shot from areas not accessible to enthusiasts feature variations of all the major operators' standard color schemes, as well as unique "one-off" liveries. Detailed appendices provide full specifications for each aircraft.

4.0 out of 5 stars Baby Boeings, June 29, 2000
By

This review is from: Baby Boeings: Boeing 727s and 737s (Osprey Civil Aircraft) (Paperback)
This book contains a wealth of colour photographs depicting the two types (Boeing 727 and 737) in many differente operators paints schemes. Robbie Shaw is well know for his series of airliners books. This one mixes the Boeing 727 and 737 , and is well up to his normal standards. Although primarily a picture book , the variation of angles and airlines from the photographs keeps the reader interested, with cutaway drawing of 727-200 Advanced at the end. An unfavorable aspect of this book, is the lack of cutaway drawings of the other types (727-100 and all 737's). Overall , the balance of the book is good, like others Robbie Shaw`s titles.

4.0 out of 5 stars Unmistakable. A brilliant read., July 4, 2004

This review is from: Baby Boeings: Boeing 727s and 737s (Osprey Civil Aircraft) (Paperback)
We are all guilty for stereotyping Boeing 727s as elderly freighters, and 737s as those shuttles that take us from city to city. And to a degree, those two stereotypes are true, but, as you will read in this brilliant documentary by Robbie Shaw, these two models are unique in so many ways. As a sequel to the very satisfying 'Boeing 747' book, also written by Shaw, 'Baby Boeings' is a humorous book that never fails to identify how common these aircraft are in the world. Not only is there a brilliant history of the two craft, but a wealth of extraordinary photographs only underlines the fact that this writer, the unmissable Robbie Shaw, has spent decades collecting and collating such fantastic information, on paper, and on film. For any aviation enthusiast, or any person who just wants to sit down with a good book, 'Baby Boeings' is a humorous, passionately written book with so much in it. You've done it again, Osprey Publishing, and I'll award four stars, just for the fact I wasn't able to see these wings myself!
