Baby Buddies Shop N Dine Safety Seat

I can count on one hand the baby products that I would rave about... but this is one of them. I am not overly concerned about germs and my son never really chewed much on shopping cart handles - HOWEVER - he is a really SQUIRMY. We've had a terrible time getting him to sit forward and stay seated in a shopping cart. Which makes grocery shopping precarious. He is very quick to stand up and turn around in the cart if we take our eyes off him. I looked and looked for a five-point harness that I could use with a shopping cart and then stumbled across the Shop n' Dine at TJMaxx. IT WORKS WONDERS. He was so secure and comfortable. We never once had to sit him back down, turn him around, or anything. I also had a place for my own drink that was out of his reach (the cup holder on front held my fast-food super-size drink). My son never complained about the seat and I wish I had found this months earlier (he is 14 months now). It's perfect. One thing I found was that I was able to use the shopping cart strap in addition to the 5-point harness on this product which in effect made a 7-point harness (over the shoulders and between the legs with the product and around the chest with the shopping cart strap). Another thing - My son usually pulls shoulder straps off, but these stayed in place and he never messed with them. And even though he was straped in securely, he was comfortable and able to play with us, point to things, play with toys, etc. He wasn't at all paralyzed or completely immobilized by the straps. Both my husband and I were extremely impressed and pleased with the Shop n' Dine.

This is really a great product. I ordered it for my 6 month old who has only been sitting up a few weeks. It took me a couple of minutes to get it attached to the shopping cart the first time, but once I got the hang of it it's very easy to use. It comes in two pieces; one to use a seat with the harness and a second to secure over the shopping cart handle. I haven't used the handle portion yet as my baby is so interested in looking around she hasn't tried to mouth the handle. She is quite squirmy so the harness keeps her safe and she doesn't mind it a bit. She is very comfortable and can look around and I'm not as concerned about her squirming or climbing out of the cart. I'm very happy with this product and highly recommend it.

True, you can super strap your wiggly kid in with this thing. AND, it has more support straps than all of the other major products of this type out there.

However, it's not padded and it's a pain to put on the cart compared to all of the other major products of this type out there.

So, you'll need to chose: padded and convenient but not very secure OR secure but inconvenient and not as padded.

I wish we would have chosen something else.

This is a great product if you have a wiggly child. I wish I would have known about this sooner. At the grocery store I used to spend more time making my son sit down than shopping and it was very frustrating. After purchasing this product it has been less stressful at the store. This is a must have. The only challenge was connecting it to the cart but once that is accomplised it is worth every second!!!

Perhaps this was a great option when it was the only thing on the market, but the only thing WORSE than this seat is the naked cart---MAYBE!!!

It's 2 pieces, which by itself indicates that a quick one-handed install is not possible --but should be MANDATORY when you have a tiny baby, or a squirming toddler.

Shopping w/ this device:

You've got Timmy in and out of the his 5point carseat harness and onto your, hip/shoulder/forearm.. You trek to the carts with Timmy in one arm and this "Safety Seat" in the other. Now you're at the carts but just untangling the seat from its own straps (used when closing/storing product) is hard with one arm around your child but then... . Then finding the right strap to wrap around the right part of the cart--there are lots of dangling straps suddenly--and hoping you didnt get one of those carts with the large advertising placard at the back of the seat (if ill-placed its disastrous)---PHEW! Where's Timmy?? Where's my chiropractor and OH DARN!!

I havent even installed the second piece which goes of the cart's handle. I only had the one hand so that piece fell to the floor or in the cart and now we're bending our broken back to find it, and we manage to connect its long strip of velcro with one hand as gravity keeps pulling it --a glorified gigantic pocket -- down....

Now wait a minute... shouldnt this cover the entire handlebar? WHY is my baby nibbling the handle just to the left... to the right... and oh wait the cart seat isnt well covered either.

Well, shopping's done (Little Timmy has a tummy full of germs), now I unload the cart with timmy watching from his seat, we return the cart and oh... wait... I have to get back to the car with timmy in one arm and yet unwrap this wretched device from the shopping cart... On the handlebar piece I have to pull long stretches of velcro which wiggle away from me because I used the darn dangling pockets for keys and wallet. PHEW, Now I've got this piece... and timmy and ... WHAT? I grow a third arm? OK, I have 2 stretchy pieces curling down the back and around that advert and latching underneath but I need more than a hand to undo the latch... YA KNOW WHAT, I'll leave the darned thing!

Or ... would you have left the baby in the car while you returned the cart? Or left your cart in your parking space?

JUST BUY THE BuggyBag!!! One hand install. Covers the entire seat and handle. Padded! Has a PILLOW. Cuter. DONT buy the "Floppy" either. Total Mess. IF you REALLY need a full harness, htere are other bags (not as easily installed as Buggybag but---LIGHTYEARS beyond this arcane product)

This was a surprise gift for the expectant mother. Was recommended by another new mother as the best gift she got that she didn't know she needed.
