More About the Author

Stephanie Bond was several years into a corporate computer programming career when an instructor in her night school MBA program remarked that she had a flair for writing and encouraged her to submit one of her projects to academic journals. "But," Stephanie says, "all I could think was 'I wonder if I could write a romance novel?'" Bond grew up on a farm in eastern Kentucky where the entertainment choices were few. Luckily, she had a beloved aunt who shared her passion for reading. "When she visited once a year, she brought boxes and boxes of gothic novels by Victoria Holt and Phyllis Whitney and lush historical romances--I was in heaven! So suddenly thinking about writing in the genre of the books I loved was very exciting." After writing every spare moment for two years, Stephanie sold her first romantic comedy manuscript, IRRESISTIBLE? to Harlequin books. Two years later, she walked away from her corporate career to write commercial fiction full time. To date, she's published over 60 romance and mystery projects with Random House, St. Martin's Press, HarperCollins, and Mira Books, and is most well-known for her BODY MOVERS humorous mystery series. Her newest series is TWO GUYS DETECTIVE AGENCY (about two sisters whose last name is Guy). Stephanie lives in midtown Atlanta and is probably working on a story at this very moment.

The rebuilding of Sweetness Georgia is about a year into the brothers 2 year grant. They have over 500 people now living there, new businesses have started popping up, a general store, a school, things are growing slow but sure.

Kendall Armstrong, still in love with Amy Bradshaw for the past 12 years, tried to get her to move back to Sweetness by placing the ad to draw women to the town. She didn't bite, but when Kendall's older brother Marcus calls her with a job offer, rebuilding an old bridge in town, she initially says no, but needing a job and money win out and she accepts.

The temporary move back to Sweetness brings up many unresolved feelings for both Kendall and Amy and just when they're starting to find their way back to each other, a huge secret Amy's been keeping for 12 years comes rolling into town.

***SPOILERISH TERRITORY***

The story is all about Amy and Kendall trying to find a way past everything that's kept them apart for 12 years. I'm not a huge fan of one of the plot devices used in this book - Amy having a child with Kendall and not telling him about it. It just didn't feel like the reasons behind her not telling him for 12 years were strong enough. She was hurt when Kendall left her in Sweetness for his job and she wanted out. She didn't want to wait for him and because he never said the 3 magic words "I love you" to her, she was convinced he didn't care at all, so she picked up and left. No looking back. I can understand her being hurt, very scared and alone, but I just can't understand keeping this secret from Kendall. At one point Kendall even tells Amy that he had a right to know about their son, Tony, and her response was, "it was easier for me if you didn't know." I just can't root for someone who has that attitude.

I enjoyed the first book in this series so felt the second would be a similar fun and silly enjoyment for my 4th of July weekend reading. About 15% of the way in I found the true plot - something that I don't think was really clear in the description.

Needless to say, hidden baby is not a plot device I enjoy and given that the Armstrong brothers as written are about the most strong, loyal, caring, honorable and decent men ever to walk the face of the earthand who would all make excellent fathers and uncles --- this one is about as bad as it gets.

***Spoliers***
I should note that I didn't purchase either book 1 or 2 in this series(thankfully) but checked them out thru my local library, but this is actually a good thing. The books are well written, but noticed with book 1 that the basic story line for this whole series is really farfetched and out there as some other reviewers have already noted. That's fine in romantic fiction, and I did manage to 'muddle' thru book 1 and enjoyed it ok despite it's silly premise. Book 2 is another story......terrible. Nutshell - they meet in high school, boy promises they will be together, get married (eventually) > after high school boy enlists in military, comes home from a short leave and thinks they should wait to get married and wants her to try college & wait for him > this ticks off the girl, she leaves town and tells him to never contact her again...Ok, that's fine if she wants to move on, and doesn't feel like waiting on him, but what she doesn't tell the guy is that she's pregnant, proceeds to have their son and NEVER tells him about this??? It's not really clear to me what Amy's real motivation was in keeping their son a secret from Kendall. Towards the beginning of the book she's missing her son and thinking back about all of the things she got to experience with him, first steps, hugs, words etc...now he's a trouble making pre-teen and she feels that he needs a male influence in his life. Wow....there are really no words for how much I personally hate this plot device....terrible. As I read this, I kept thinking Amy was a real b!%$^, and that Kendall needed to run far, far away from this chick.....2 thumbs down for me.

A tornado destroyed their small town in the Georgia Mountains (see Baby, I'm Yours). However, the three Armstrong brothers want to rebuild Sweetness. The only problem with their plan for greening Sweetness is the lack of women. Thus they advertised and the youngest sibling Porter has found a woman to love (see Baby, I'm Yours).

Middle brother Kendall was praying his first and only love his former fiancée Amy Bradshaw would come home; he even advertised in the newspaper of her current town Broadway, Michigan. Civil engineer Amy left Sweetness a dozen years ago vowing never to go back as she distrusts the commitment of small-town Southern men. However, Kendall's older brother Marcus offers her a job she cannot refuse. Now it is up to Kendall to finalize the deal if he can get her to cross the bridge that keeps them apart, but she comes with an unexpected bonus.

The second Southern Roads contemporary romance is a fun amusing tale with the underlying message that home is not a where but whom the heart is most confortable with. Kendall and Amy are likable antagonists as he desperately wants a second chance with her while she avoids small town Southern men as if they are a disease. Although the story line is somewhat linear, fans will enjoy driving the mountain roads of Georgia as Kendall tries to persuade Amy to make a home with him.
