Book Description

May 13, 2008 Harlequin Super Romance (Book 1492)

Libby McGannon wants a baby. That's why she's offering a share in her family gold mine to the right sperm donor. She gets more than she bargained for, however, when gorgeous Hollywood actor Cooper Lindstrom blows into town.

The no-nonsense postmaster of Sentinel Pass wants only one thing from Cooper, and she's got a mother lode of rules to go with it. Too bad Cooper's never played by the rules...especially when it comes to love. Now he wants a stake in his child's future--a future that includes Libby.

But when his true reason for being in town is revealed, Cooper's got some explaining to do. Can he make Libby trust him again...make her see that it's never too late to be the person you were meant to be?

More About the Author

Debra Salonen wrote her first story in crayon on the underside of her mother's coffee table. Her mother was not amused. Subsequent writing efforts included a screenplay for Flipper--in block print on lined paper (you can see why it never got picked up, right?), a spy thriller --okay, a blatant rip-off of James Bond; an Irma Bombeck-esque series of letters to her family, which might have come across as a tad more whiny than amusing, and, eventually, she enjoyed a four-year stint as an award-winning feature writer for a newspaper.

In 2000, her first romance novel was published by Harlequin for its Superromance line. That novel, THAT COWBOY'S KIDS, has recently been re-released, bringing Deb's total number of published books to 30. Her May 2010 release, UNTIL HE MET RACHEL, was honored by RTBook Reviews as the Reviewer's Choice for "Best Superromance of 2010."

In addition to her two current Superromance titles, RETURN TO THE BLACK HILLS and A FATHER'S QUEST, Deb is enjoying a renewed flirtation with short stories. Her first Kindle release, "A Hundred Years or More," looks at that special bond between a pet and his owner, and what happens when a pet--in this case, a parrot--outlives his owner.

5.0 out of 5 stars amusing lighthearted contemporary romance, May 11, 2008
Sentinel Pass, South Dakota postmaster Libby McGannon feels her biological clock ticking and wants a baby without a husband. Not happy with the locals, she offers half her share in the family gold mine over eBay for a sperm donor. To her shock thousands of people offer their DNA to her.

After sharing emails and phone calls that prove their compatibility, TV actor and reality show host Cooper Lindstrom arrives in Sentinel Pass to complete the sale. He needs money to pay off his recently deceased mother's gambling debt; her bookie will kill for his cash. His two former wives also demand their monthly stipend form their divorce settlements but he has no funds to meet his legal requirement. As they fall in love Coop decides he wants to raise their offspring with his beloved Libby. However, he knows he failed to come clean with his real reason for coming to the Black Hills; creating a situation comedy based on Libby's offer. He fears when she learns the truth she will kick him off the Plains back to the Pacific Ocean.

BABY BY CONTACT is an amusing lighthearted contemporary romance that plays out on two subplots. First there is the obvious typical romance between the lead couple. Second there is Coop's humorous assessment aside of everyone he meets as possible characters on his upcoming show. Fans will enjoy this South Dakota takes Hollywood frolic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can Libby pull this off?, October 3, 2008
This review is from: Baby By Contract (Harlequin Super Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
What a wonderful book and cast of characters!

Hollywood meets a small town in South Dakota!

Libby McGannon, postmaster of Sentinel Pass, creates her own MySpace page for sperm in exchange for a 1/4 interest in a Gold Mine in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Libby wants a baby and none of the local men interest her so what's to stop her from having a baby by ivf?

Cooper Lindstrom needs money, his mother has been his manager since she first started Coop "in the movies" he was in a commercial while still in diapers. His mother has recently died and he finds out she has gambled all his money away. He's the host of a reality show right now but it is losing it's audience so he knows it will be canceled soon. The gold mine interests him but a TV show can make a lot more money.

Cooper exchanges emails with Libby until he decides to go to Sentinel Pass for a week so Libby can decide if he's the one. Coop's been thinking of creating a TV show about Libby and Sentinel Pass so he's here to check out the place and her. What happens when they get to know each other?

Libby has 3 best friends and Coop has 1 so we have many more books to look forward to in this series. Next one is HIS BROTHER'S SECRET in 9/08

4.0 out of 5 stars Spotlight on Sentinel Pass, May 17, 2008
By
This review is from: Baby By Contract (Harlequin Super Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
Libby McGannon wants a baby desperately. She is not looking for a husband, just a family. She finds herself creating a webpage on [...] advertising to "sell" her half of a share in a gold mine, for a donation of sperm. She plans to screen potential donors and find the right man to father her child.

Cooper Lindstrom is a popular reality television host who is finding his career coming to an abrupt halt. As his series loses ratings, he also finds out he is broke, and his deceased mother's gambling debts are haunting him. When Cooper finds Libby's ad, he finds himself intrigued and responds.

Libby and Cooper come together in a bizarre plan to create a baby. Neither is sure of their actions, but both have an agenda to get what they want. What they don't expect is sparks, attraction and lust to pull them together for a night of passion. When Libby realizes she is in love with Cooper, she knows she has to get him out of her town. She doesn't realize just how far Cooper will go to get the woman he loves, and watching these two come together in a happily ever after ending, makes this book well worth the read.

Debra Salonen is a talented author who creates a humorous tale filled with lust and love. She gives readers a look into what makes the internet a unique place to meet potential mates, and then into what happens when you fall in love with the wrong mate. Her characters are multi-faceted, they make you want to love them, yet want to strangle them as they each make mistakes and have to correct their wrongs.

Secondary characters in this novel stay secondary, yet give the book a realistic feel. The characters of Sentinel Pass come alive making this reader want more. Luckily Ms. Salonen has plans for this small town, and her next installment in the Spotlight on Sentinel Pass series is slated for September of 2008.
