5.0 out of 5 stars actually, it rocks, doesn't it?
London debut combines glam/psych Indie garage rock with some hard-edged guitar and
distortion-damaged blues lines in a place where melody-strewn verses collide with rumbling,
riff-driven choruses. Hanging out somewhere among White Stripes, the Kills, Duke Spirit,
Queens Of the Stone Age, Black Keys.

3.0 out of 5 stars Half and Half
First half of the album is great, love it, and then I find myself pressing eject.

5.0 out of 5 stars BIG,STOMPIN', BLUES ROCK!, June 18, 2009
Great band, not a bad song on the album. I am really amazed that they are still relatively unknown. $5.99?! That is a great price for so much damn good music. If you like The Black Keys, or White Stripes, you will dig this! PLUG-Check out Dan Auerbach's new album too!

4.0 out of 5 stars Band of Rockers Who Just Happen To Have Skulls, March 28, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Sounding like a cross between The Rolling Stones & The White Stripes, Band of Skulls is truly a product of the current alternative rock scene. They're brash, they have that dirty sound, and they're radio-friendly. But, the first thing you'll probably notice is that "Baby Darling Doll Face Honey" is truly a debut album. Every song has a different sound, and while they do share some common similarities, it feels like the band is feeling out the territory. As a result, it really feels disjointed. But the problem is, they're so good on most of the sounds. They do the dirty rock well, but they're also amazing at the slower ballads. Add to that the fact that they have duel vocalists, and there's a lot going on here. Most of it is pretty good, but not all of it works.

Highlights Include:
Light of the Morning
Death By Diamonds & Pearls
I Know What I Am
Honest
Cold Fame

Overall, if you're a fan of current alternative rock, then you should love what you find here. It sounds like a continuation of the White Stripes, and while they're unsure of their work at times, or what sound & style they should exactly be going for, if they did stay consistent, Band of Skulls really has something here. Heck, they casted off the song "Friends" which made it onto the New Moon soundtrack, and that's a great song. So if they're castoffs are that good, imagine the potential greatness of this band.

WOW! I hate predictable music. This is such a refreshing, inspired disc. I found it because of the Ford Mustang commercial. The ad featured 'Light of the Morning'. It's a great bluesy tune. There is simply NOT a bad song on this cd.
It reminds me of 11th Dream Day, Electrofixion, The Jets and Silversun Pickups. This is bright, complex and complete. What a find! Buy it Now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rock is NOT dead!, March 22, 2010

I wish to add my voice to the chorus of those who love this band. There are a lot of different and interesting things that are being done with rock, but I have not heard great and pure rock for a long time until this album.

I read that the bass player has over 15,000 albums - most vinyl - and this shows in their work as every song has a solid rock foundation, but does not ape their classic rock inspirations; instead Band of Skulls progresses rock.

So...

Great band, great vocals and harmonies, great solid music and they put on a great show.

This is one of the best albums I have heard in a long time! Not a bad track, stomping rock riffs, beautiful harmony's and catchy melodies. It just gets better and better with each listen.

I saw the band last year in a small club with about 100 people, it became obvious I was watching something very special. If there is anything right with the music industry, this band is destined for great things. Rock and Roll as it should be!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best this year..., April 27, 2009
Wow, this is the one of the best alt-rock albums I've heard in a long time. There's not really a bad song on the entire record, with some real standouts. Cold Fame is probably one of my favorite rock ballads of all time and I can't stop listening. $5.99 is a steal and I'll be following this band in the future.

This is no doubt a great album. I don't think it's QUITE as amazing as a lot of the other people here seem to think but I definitely enjoy listening to it. I did hear a little bit of Jack Whites style when I first sampled this but after a few listens they aren't much like the White Stripes. There are a lot of different styles on the record. Emma's voice on Honest is amazing. The songs range from slow ballads to nice rocking songs. I really like the use of both male and female vocals throughout as well. Overall I was pleased with my listening experience.

I got this album at a show of theirs and it's pretty awesome. Hollywood bowl, amazing track. I Know What I am, kick ass solo.. and love a good bad ass bassist chick in a band.

Grab it up!

Look, anyone who gives this album less than four stars just does not appreciate the music. This is one of the most original albums I have heard in years. Except for the obvious influence of Jimmy Page on the guitarist this music just sounds original. The lyrics are intriguing and other than describing the music as 'rock' you can't really pigeon hole this group into any genre. You have to listen through the entire album multiple times to grasp the lasting impression it makes. FYI: I have not read the other reviews as I do not really care what they have to say. Unfortunately when you make a debut album this good the chances of a sophomore album comparing to it are daunting. However, I hope this group sticks with it and their originality will not be lost by outside influences or other factors.
