5.0 out of 5 stars Captivating for all children!
This is the second Baby Einstein video I bought, the first being Neighborhood Animals. It is so colorful and eye catchy to young children. My child is 28-month's old with Autism. She normally does not like to watch videos for more then 10 minutes, but this one captivates her for the entire 30 minutes. Do not let the 101 minutes on the label fool you, that is 30 minutes of...

3.0 out of 5 stars Slight disappointment to the Einstein collection.
We have just about every video in the series for our 2 year old and most are good. However, comparing this baby dolittle world animals to neighborhood animals, this one is inferior. The footage of the nine or so wild animals (elephant, giraffe, tropical birds, turtles, dolphin, fish, lion, monkey, tiger) is great, as is the music (much like the other videos). However,...

This is the second Baby Einstein video I bought, the first being Neighborhood Animals. It is so colorful and eye catchy to young children. My child is 28-month's old with Autism. She normally does not like to watch videos for more then 10 minutes, but this one captivates her for the entire 30 minutes. Do not let the 101 minutes on the label fool you, that is 30 minutes of video and 61 minutes of music you can listen to like a CD. The animals are: Tigers, Elephants, Tropical Parrots, Giraffes, Dolphins, among many others all beautifully filmed in action. It is much like a really good PBS Nature show, but with each animal on the screen for no more then 5 minutes. In-between the animals segments there are puppets playing and some toys to watch- all animals of course. We love this video and it looks incredible on DVD! A must have as well as Neighborhood Animals. I just bought some more Baby Einstein DVD's and will review those as well, but the animal ones are by far the best.

5.0 out of 5 stars our seven month old loves it, May 30, 2003

(REAL NAME)
I think it's hard to review Baby Einstein videos, because as an adult there are so many things that seem annoying or bothersome that are not so for my child. Yes, I find the kids dressed up in animal costumes annoying, but my son loves them. The puppetry (in this one especially) doesn't make any sense to me either, but my son loves it.

We own 8 various Baby Einstein videos, some DVD and some VHS and my son likes this one as well as all the others. We also own the Neighborhood Animals video and I don't really understand why some reviewers prefer it over this one. They are slightly different, but my son doesn't prefer one of them over the other (at this age anyway). The only thing I've noticed is that he likes to have a variety rather than watch the same one every day (that's how our collection got so big). As a parent, I actually enjoy watching World Animals with him more than Neighborhood Animals, because I find the videos of the animals more interesting. While I would prefer to watch a nature special on PBS, my son enjoys the way Baby Einstein breaks up the footage with animation and puppetry (however corny it seems to me), it helps his short attention span out.

I do recommend the DVD over the VHS if you are choosing between the two. The DVDs are a much better value in my opinion. We've already begun to wear out our VHS tapes (the sound is garbled in spots now) and I love the interactive flash cards and other extras that come with the DVDs.

All in all, my son watches this video over and over again even back to back sometimes and loves every minute. To me that says it all.

The footage of the nine or so wild animals (elephant, giraffe, tropical birds, turtles, dolphin, fish, lion, monkey, tiger) is great, as is the music (much like the other videos). However, the puppeteering is SO tiring after a while, and just not very good in this one. Way too much time is wasted in between animal sequences, with dull puppet displays and babies horribly dressed in animal costumes. The toys are neat but otherwise, show us more animals and lighten up on the other stuff please! If you are trying to choose between baby dolittle's, buy neighborhood animals, there are probably better wild animal videos out there.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not up to usual standard, September 17, 2001
By A Customer
By daughter (now 14 months) enjoys many of the Baby Einstein videos. She likes the companion to this one, "Neighborhood Animals" as well as others in the series (Mozart, Bach, Shakespeare and Van Gogh). By "likes" I mean that she will sit through the entire video and respond to the images by laughing, clapping etc. Not in this case. The video is divided into 3 sections; Animals in the Jungle (tiger, tropical bird, monkey); Animals in the Ocean (sea turtle, dolphin, fish); and Animals on the Savannah (elephant, giraffe, lion). The actual video clips of these animals are good to fair in quality. However, there are LONG intervals between these sections in which the puppetry seems amateurish (in comparison to the others in the series), the live action segments of children dressed up as animals are ridiculous, and the segments featuring toys simply dull and unimaginative. The music selections also seem haphazard, and the silly song that accompanies the "Ocean" segment is especially cloying. But the real judge is my daughter and instead of interacting with this video she rapidly loses interest. I understand that Baby Einstein is using a tried and true formula but that formula falls apart if the accompaning material is weak. It seems to me that this video was rushed in production and therefore suffers greatly in quality in contrast to the others in the series. I am very disappointed. I gave it 2 stars only because of the live animal footage. I would recommend the video by embryonics Video Soup "Mozart Nature Symphonies" if you have a child interested in animals, there are no puppets, toys or children, but it presents its video segments in an lively and intelligent manner.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the better Baby Einstein DVDs, January 6, 2004
By A Customer
This was the first Baby Einstein DVD we purchased and our son, who was about a year old then and is now 16 months, has enjoyed it very much. He is a very active child but for quite a while he would sit completely still to watch, and now he has hand motions for some of the scenes and applauds at the end. As other people have mentioned, the animal footage is more interesting for an adult to watch than the endless parade of toys that fill up a lot of the other videos in the series (especially the classixal music ones). I personally like the quiet atmosphere of the video -- no loud noises, flashy pictures or dialogue -- just animal footage, adorable puppet shows and a small number of toys. My son has learned to recognize the animals shown and even has favorite scenes. Definitely get DVD because the baby will want to watch "continuous play"!

3.0 out of 5 stars disappointed in this video, August 25, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Baby Dolittle - World Animals [VHS] (VHS Tape)
As a parent of an 18 month daughter, we own all of the videos in the Baby Einstein series. We are always excited when a new video comes out. We purchased this video thinking that she would love it, as she loves animals. She is extremely bored with this video, and as a parent, it is not up to the same standard as the other videos. It does have some beautiful scenes of wild animals, but overall it seems to be put together quickly. If you want to buy an animal video, I would recommend the Neighborhood Animals video. That is a hit with my daughter and myself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Daughter loved the puppets, November 20, 2001
This review is from: Baby Dolittle - World Animals [VHS] (VHS Tape)
My daughter loved Baby Dolittle Neighborhood Animals and World Animals from the time she was 14 months to about 22 months. She loved the puppets and the real life pictures really held her attention. Learned a lot about animals and these videos really helped her to recognize a lot of different animals.

She didn't seem as interested in this video as much as the Baby Bach and Baby Mozart videos before 14 months. She would get bored with the real life video parts until she was a little older. But as she got closer to 1 and 1/2 she started to lose interest in the Baby Bach and Baby Mozart videos and started to like the Baby Dolittle ones the most.

5.0 out of 5 stars beautiful, colorful animal footage, March 12, 2004
By A Customer
This DVD has beautiful footage of animals in their habitats. It's broken into 3 main categories of Animals in the Jungle, Animals in the Ocean, and Animals on the Savannah. In the Jungle section, the animals shown are: Tiger, Tropical Bird, and Monkey. The Ocean segment features: Sea Turtle, Dolphin, and Fish. The Savannah segment shows: Elephants, Giraffes, and Lions. Each animal has about 5 minutes dedicated to it which includes a musical video, toys shown of that animal, and a mini puppet-show that introduces the next animal. I bought it for my 2 yr old son because he loves Elephants and it's been a hit (he loves the whole thing).

My 2-year-old daughter was mesmerized by this video. It is a wonderful combination of puppetry and footage of real animals, and was extremely well done. We very much enjoyed some of the other Baby Einstein videos when she was younger (Baby Bach, Baby Mozart, Baby Einstein), and this was a wonderful addition to our collection as she is getting a little bit older. This will definitely be a video that we watch over and over and over again.

My daughter and I have the whole series of Baby Einstein videos. Mine was given to me at a grandmother's shower and I in turn got them for my daughter. My grandson is now 10 months old and just loves them all. From the time he was born I would put in Baby Mozart and he would just watch it and fall asleep. Now he smiles and laughs at all the puppets and animals. I was so excited when they came out with World Animals as my grandson has enjoyed all of them thus far, and once again I was thrilled just to watch the expressions on his face as we watch and enjoy the tapes together. I can truly say, these tapes are one of the best gifts you can give a new mother!
