Baby Einstien Library, November 24, 1999
This review is from: Baby Einstein 3pk [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I first purchased Baby Bach for my granddaughter who absolutely loved it. I then purchased her the other two videos: Baby Mozart and Baby Einstein. All three are excellent for not only their music, but also their content. She sits mesmerized by each of them for the entire video. (Each one is thirty minutes long.) They are excellent for parental (or grandparental) interaction. She has learned colors, objects, and counting along with the nursery rhymes and music. I would highly recommend them to anyone with a young child. I am now purchasing them as baby shower gifts.

Baby Einstein v. So Smart v. BabyScape, June 1, 2000
This review is from: Baby Einstein 3pk [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I currently have all of the videos in this library, although I bought them separately (Baby Mozart, Baby Bach and Baby Einstein), plus Baby Shakespeare, which is not included but also produced by the Baby Einstein Company. I also have the So Smart 3-video boxed-set, as well as the BabyScapes videos, "Baby's Smart Start," and "Miracle of Mozart: Numbers & Shapes." Of all of the three companies I rate them in ranking order: 1. Baby Einstein (best) 2. BabyScapes (OK) 3. So Smart (terrible) I bought these videos four months ago for my (now) five-month-old daughter. She cannot get enough of Baby Mozart, and she really enjoys Baby Bach, too. The visuals for Baby Bach are even better than the Baby Mozart videos, but I think that she enjoy the music of Mozart more. The only drawback of the Baby Einstein videos in general is that there are annoying clips (less in Mozart than in Bach) of Ms. Aigner-Clark's children. There is a particularly annoying scene in Bach where her older daughter says something rather unintelligible followed by an irritatingly artificial laugh-track. My daughter begins whining when the videos cut to this scene and it is hard for her attention to focus back on the more interesting visuals. The Baby Einstein video is not a great attention getter, but also OK. I would note that the Russian speaker speaks with an accent, and, that while I generally admire the accomplishments of Ms. Aigner-Clark, her speaking voice is thin and unpleasant... to both my ear and my children's, too. She speaks a lot in both the Baby Shakespeare and Baby Einstein videos. The So Smart set has very mundane, cheap low-tech computer-generated videos. My 5-month-old will not watch them for even 2 minutes. The BabyScape video, "Baby's Smart Start," is also a total flop with my daughter. However, "Miracle of Mozart: Numbers & Shapes" is pretty good and will hold her attention when she is in a good mood. This is also (like So Smart, but UNLIKE Baby Einstein's products) computer-amination based visuals, but more "intelligent" than the So Smart series. Nevertheless it is not as enthralling to her as the Baby Mozart and Baby Bach. If you are interested in a small library for infants, the two to own are Baby Mozart & Baby Bach. These are totally capitvating for my daughter - this library looks like a good deal. Minus one star for the unprofessional speaking voice and the clips of the kids.

This set is a bit disappointing..., November 11, 2000
This review is from: Baby Einstein 3pk [VHS] (VHS Tape)
We purchased this exact item from Amazon, not long ago, because our baby (like everyone elses'!) LOVES the Baby Mozart video. It's a sure-fire cure for anything that ails her, and I highly recommend it. I won't bother repeating the praise already written here. Our daughter was a bit *less* thrilled with the other two tapes included in this pack. Baby Bach is enjoyable, but nowhere near the magic of Baby Mozart (I hate to say it, but Bach's music isn't as fun for babies, either). I agree with the other reviewers that creator Julie Aigner-Clark featured her children FAR too much, to the extent that you may feel you're watching her home videos. Her older daughter cannot be understood in the cutesy audio clips. It will drive you a little crazy. Our daughter enjoys the tape, but not as much as her #1 choice above. She is actually frightened by part of it (the sledding kids), though I'm not sure why. Baby Einstein was a disappointment for me, because I'm a foreign language enthusiast--I didn't expect to find it boring, but I do. Our daughter still enjoys watching the images on the screen, however. *Most Importantly* -- I feel that potential purchasers should know--the videos come shrink-wrapped *together*. We already had a copy of Baby Mozart, so I had planned to give the new one away as a gift. This wasn't possible, since once I opened the pack, it wasn't "new" anymore. Also, the CD included is a 20 minute long *sampler* of the other soundtracks available from the Baby Einstein company. It comes in a cardboard envelope. I purchased this set for $40 (it has dropped in price since then) and ended up feeling like I should have bought each item separately, and skipped the CD altogether.
