5.0 out of 5 stars Great way to learn ABCs!
My daughter received this for her first birthday and I swear it was because of these books that she knew her ABCs before she turned two. Each letter book has three pictures beginning with that letter - a cartoon, an artwork, and a photograph - along with the word (e.g., the letter M has a drawing of a monkey, a picture of a glass of milk, and a cartoon drawing of a moon)...

2.0 out of 5 stars 8 book cover pics DO NOT even match the letter
The pictures on the front of several letters do NOT match with the letter. I.e monkey on the J letter book; turtle on the N; baby on the Q; dolphin on the U; mouse on the V; mouse on the X; bird on the W; horse on the Y.

There are only 3 pages in each book. Souldn't each book that is dedicated to a letter match the designated letter?

Each letter book has three pictures beginning with that letter - a cartoon, an artwork, and a photograph - along with the word (e.g., the letter M has a drawing of a monkey, a picture of a glass of milk, and a cartoon drawing of a moon). She loves going through all 26 of them with us - and could entertain herself with them because the pages are thick and sturdy enough for her to easily manipulate them. After a year of frequent use we just had to tape the box together as it started to become unglued at the corners. Definitely worthwhile and fun!

5.0 out of 5 stars Baby's Favorite Toy, August 19, 2009

This has been, by far, my one-year-old daughter's favorite toy since she was about eight months old. She pores through each book, and they are the perfect size for her little fingers. The variety of photos and illustrations (as well as the sheer number of them!) keeps her busy for minutes on end. Each slim little book contains three board pages, each with a picture and corresponding word associated with that letter. Contrary to other reviews, I think the pictures are quite well chosen, and the mixture of cartoons, photos, and fine art make for a nice introduction to the different types of image. I can see this set holding her interest for many more months to come, as she becomes more aware of the names for things and the world around her. As the box suggests, the books can also be used as flash cards, and my five-year-old can use them to spell out simple words. Though the books are recommended for 18 months and up, they are quite sturdy, and hold up well to my one-year-old's constant interest. Finally, we received these as a gift for my daughter's birth, and I would buy them for friends without hesitation.

Please ignore the ridiculous (typo?) age recommendation on this page of ten years and up!

2.0 out of 5 stars not very good at all, January 8, 2009
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars

Pictures are often poorly chosen. While some are good, half of them could represent multiple words or they would be impossible for a child to associate with other pictures of the same word. I think better words could have been chosen for the individual letters. The little books are quite durable, though. Overall, this is not a good tool for teaching.

4.0 out of 5 stars Loves books, May 15, 2007

Our one year old son loves these books. They are small enough that he can hold it and read it by himself or pretend to read. And they are short that each book keeps his attention. Some of the pictures are not very realistic, but overall, very good purchase. One word of caution, since the lid is attached to the box by strings, his fingers got caught in it once. Just untie the string and put it away for easier access to the box.

We received this set from my cousin, after her sons had loved it well. We've had it for over a year now, and it remains one of my DD's favorites. While some of the books do have the odd picture on the cover (a dolphin for the letter "U"?), the pictures/words in the books do match up. A great set to promote letter recognition and learning simple sight words. Having withstood the abuse of four children, these books are still standing tall and are sturdily made.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent alphabet toy, July 6, 2011

These books taught my first son (now 3) his letters and the sounds they make. It's now teaching my 18 month old second son. I'm going to order a second set because after two kids, a few of the books have gone missing. Besides their educational value, my 18 month old loves to simply put the books in the box and empty them out, open them up, look at the pictures, and put them away. All in all, an excellent set.
